UNIT 1 : A VISIT FROM A PEN PAL LESSON 5: Write

A.Objectives:

1. Aims:

- Write a personal letter

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will know how to write personal letters about themselves.

2. Practice skill:

- Practice writing skill .

3. The knowledge needs to get:

+ Standard knowledge: Write a personal letter

+ Advanced knowledge: write activities, interesting places which ss know or are on holiday.

4. Basic language:

- The tense: simple present tense, past simple tense , present perfect and simple future tense.

5. Attitude:

- Help ss to have good consciousness in order to write personal letters . B. Teaching- aids:

Lesson plan, textbooks.

C. Methods:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, group work - Techniques; pre-questions, correction

Islam/thecountry’s official religion

-The national language/Bahasa Malaysia.

- Give feedback.

III. NEW LESSON ( 35' ) Step 1. Pre - writing

- Set the scene: “Imagine you are visiting your relatives or friends in another part of Viet Nam or a different country”.

Hang a poster on the board with questions - Run through the questions

- Ask students on their own answer the following questions:

1. Where are you now? How did you get there?

2. Who did you meet?

3. What have you done?

- What places have you visited?

- Who hve you met?

- What kinds of food have you tried?

- What souvenir have you bought?

4. How do you feel now?

5. What do you think interest you most?

6. When are you returning home?

- Ask two or three students to tell the class about their visit.

- Ask work in pairs to talk to each other about their visit.

- Remind students about the format of a personal letter by asking the question: What are the parts of a personal letter?

Step 2. While - writing

- Ask Sts to write a letter to their family, telling them about their visit.

- Ask Sts to look at the outline on page 11 and ask them what part of the letter they are going to write. ( body of the letter )

- Ask Sts to follow the outline to write their own letter.

- Ask them to swap their letters, compare with their partner’s, and correct if they can.

- Suggested ideas:

First paragraph:

I arrived at Da Nang airport/ train station/ bus station at 2 pm / 8 pm/ late in the afternoon/ at midnight, etc. on Tuesday/ Wednesday/Saturday.

Step 3. Post - writing

* Correction:

- Choose some letters to correct in class ( using projector if possible )

Hoa/ Nam/ uncle Tan/ aunt Huong met me at the airport/ train station/ bus station, then he/ she took me home by taxi/ motorbike/ bicycle...

Second paragraph:

I have visited/ been to many places like the beaches, the Cham Museum,

Marble Mountains, supermarkets, the water park, etc. I have tried different foods: seafood, Da Nang specialty...

I will visit Hoi An and My Son tomorrow/ on Sunday...

Third paragraph:

I feel so happy and enjoy myself so much. The people here are so nice and friendly, the foods are so delicious and the sights are so beautiful.

I will leave Da Nang at 2 am/ 7

pm...next Thursday? Sunday..and will arrive home at 11 pm/ 5 am...Please pick me up at the airport/ bus station/

train station.

+ Advanced knowledge: use : If only + clause( past tense/be-were) 4. Basic language:

- The tense: simple present tense, past simple tense . 5. Attitude:

- Help ss to have good consciousness in order to do some exerises.

Hangman:

- Draw strokes on the board. Each stroke stands for a letter of the words.

- Students take turn to guess the letters of the words.

- If a student’s guess is not right, the teacher draws a stroke (according to the order in the picture ).

- If students guess wrong ten times, they lose.

Teacher gives the answer.

- The words has 10 letters. It is PAST SIMPLE.

- Ask students to work in pairs to ask and answer questions about what Ba, Nga, Lan, Nam and Hoa did on the weekend ( exercise 1 on page 11 ).

- Tell them that the activities happened in definite time in the past.

Possible conversations :

1. A: What did Nga do on the weekend?

B: She went to the concert performed by Hanoi singers.

A: When did she go?

B: She went there on Saturday at 8 pm.

2. A: What did Lan do on the weekend?

B: She went camping held by Y & Y.

A: When did she go?

B: She went camping all the weekend. She went on Sat. morning.

3. A: What did Nam do on the weekend?

B: He watched o soccer match Dong Thap vs The Cong.

A: Where did he watch it? At the stadium?

B: No, he watched it on TV.

4. A: What did she do on the weekend?

B: She went to see a play called “ Much Ado about Nothing”

A: When did she go to see it?

B: She saw it on Sunday at 7 pm.

- Form: I wish + S + Past Simple - Use: "Wish" is used when we want really to be different and exactly opposite of the truth, e.g.

expresses wishes in the present.
