UNIT 10: J j

Lesson 2 (part 4,5)

I.Objectives 1.Knowledge.

- By the end of the lesson , students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Jj and the coresponding words

-Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song Phonics Grade 1, Pupil’s book

2. Skills: Listening, writing , speaking and reading.

3. Attitude.

- Educate Ss to be friendly with friends.

- Students love objects with the letter j II.Teaching aids:

T: teachers’ book, , CD, phonics cards ,paper including the lyrics of the chant Ss: Student’s book, colour. Activity book.

III. Teaching methods: MAT, TPA.

IV.Procedure A. Organization

B.Warm up ( 5’) - Greet students

- Show the phonics cards, ask students to do corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words.

E.g. Teacher: (Show the ‘jam’ card). Say ’jam’

- Have students sing the chant in lesson 1, keep the rhythm by clapping their hands and gesturing

C. New lesson ( 30’ )

- Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time, partly hidden by a sheet of paper.

- Slowly reveal the phonics card

4. Listen and read along (5’)

- Play the CD again. The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story - Ss: listen and repeat.

- Ss: work individually and pairs.

- Read the story. The students follow their books.

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words.

- Ask students work in pairs. One reads while the other checks, then they change roles. Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words.

* Say the Sight Words(3’)

- Point to and say the sight words: I, like, too

- Have students repeat - Ss: listen and repeat - Ss: work individually.

- Have some students read them aloud.

- Give feedback

* Speed race (5’)

- Put three chairs in front of the board - Divide class into three teams A, B, C - Have a student from each team stand up - Put a phonics card on each chair

- Call out one of the phonics card

- The students standing try to sit on the chair with the corresponding phonics card

- The first student to sit on the chair wins a point for his/ her team

- The team with the most points wins - Ss: work in groups.

* Activity 2 (Track 66) (5 ') 5.Song

- Put the jam, jelly and juice phonics cards up on the board.

- Point to the jelly and say: “jelly is yum”.

The students repeat.

- Ss: look at the phonic cards listen and repeat.

- Ss: read in choral and individually.

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song.

- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.

- Play the CD again. The pupils sing and do corresponding actions.

- Ss: listen and repeat the song - Ss: work individually and groups.

- Corrects.

*Toss the ball (5')

- Play the song in activity 5 again, ask students to stand up

- While the music is being played, students toss the ball to the next one

- Stop the song surprisingly

- The student who is holding the ball has to read aloud one in three words (jam, jelly, juice)

- Ss: read in choral.

- Continue the song, the second student is not allowed to read the same word with the first.

- Who read incorrect word will sit down.

The last standing student wins

Say the name of the phonics card (5’) - Put the jam,jelly and juice phonics cards on your desk, face them down

- Ask a student to come and pick up a card, show it to the class and say the word.

- Ask the rest of the class for verification.

-Ask the student to invite a friend to come to play.

- Ss: work in pairs

- Teacher changes the position of the cards and let the student pick up one.

Teacher can divide the class into teams, let the teams take turns to play the activity then count the points of each team. The team has the most points is the winner.

4Consolidation(1')

- Ask whole class to sing the song at home Do the excersice

-To learn an extra Jj word correctly Jam, jelly, juice, jacket

2. Skills: Listening, writing , speaking and reading.

3. Attitude.

* Activity: Hot cards

- Divide the class into teams (depends on the desk rows in the classroom) - Hand out a phonics card to the first student of each team/ row

- Play the song from Unit 2 (Track 65), the first students pass the phonics cards to the next one in their team/ row. When the card comes to the last student of each team/ row, pass it backward

- Pause the song, the students holding the phonics cards must name them - Give one point for the correct answer

- Teacher can change the cards or hand out some more cards as necessary.

- The team with the most points wins

C.New lesson ( 30’ )

- Ask students to look at the picture in the book and name each object

- Decide the beginning sound for each word of the picture.

- Ask students to circle the pictures of the words which have the sound /j/ at the beginning

- Ss: look at the pictures and circle - Ss: work in dividually.

Activity: yes or no (5’)

- Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time, say the word.

- Ask individual to say yes or no.

- Ss: work individually.

e.g. Teacher: hold up the jam card and say “jelly”

Student : “No”

Teacher: “Good! So, What’s this”

Student: “Jelly”

* Activity 2(Track 66)(7’) Listen point and repeat

- Show the students the jacket phonics card.

Point to it and say: / d / - jacket. Ask them to repeat.

- Ss: listen point and repeat.

- Mime putting on a jacket and say: / d / - jacket. Encourage the students to do the same

- Point to the pictures, the students do corresponding actions and say the words.

- Play the CD, students listen and repeat - Ss: listen point and repaet.

- Ss: work individually.

- Ask students to work in pair: The first student point to the pictures and the other student say the word then change the roles.

* Activity 2

- Point to the pictures and have students name them

- Ss: look at the pictures.

- Allow the students some time to colour in

- Divide the class into two teams 1 and 2.

- Hand out photocopies of the pages from any book .

- The students search for and circle the letter Jj on these pages in 5 minutes

- Which team has circled the most Jj will wins.
