LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED - LISTEN AND READ A. Objectives

-By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read, understand and practice the dialogue between Lan and the nurse to talk about an emergency

* Attitude: Help Ss to be more confident to communicate with others in learning English, to know what to do in emergency cases

* Skill: Practise reading and listening skill.

- Capacity can be formed and developed for students: how to do first aids B. Teaching aids

T's preparation: Pictures, poster, Text book, lesson plan.

Ss' preparation: Text book, notebook, pen, homework.

* Sts work in pairs to read the dialogue.

- Sts work in groups of 4, make similar dialogues, using the 4 situations in getting started.

Step 3. Post – reading (7m)

* Play a game: Role play.

- Sts work in pairs, one acts as a nurse and other acts as a person who saw an injured person.

- take that person to the hospital / nearest clinic.

-Put cold water on the burned area -Put a tight bandage on it

-Put cotton wool in that person’s nose.

-Put a clean towel or a handkerchief on.

-Put on some medicated oil or rub with tiger balm

-Press down hard on the wound with a clean cloth to stop the bleeding for at least 10 minutes.

-Clean the wound well with soap and water .

3. Listen and read.

1. Who are talking? ( Lan and a nurse) 2. Where are they?( Q. Trung school) 3. What happened? ( a student fell off her bike and hit her head on the road)

* Arranging for an ambulance:

- This is an emergency.

- Please send an ambulance to …

* Giving the first- aid instructions:

- Try to stop the bleeding.

- Use a towel or a handkerchief.

* Describing the condition of the injured person.

- She is conscious, but she cut her head badly. .

- Sts work in pairs , use the phrases ( P.81) and pictures ( P. 82) to make and respond to the requests, offers, and promises.

Step 3. Post speaking (7m) Ask Ss to practice doing LF 3 ( Individual work)
