Lesson 3( 6, 7) I. AIMS

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will able practice the letter and the sound which they learned through some activities.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening, reading, writing and speaking skill 3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English II. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, flashcards, CD and computer.

2. Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

METHOD

- Communicative approach.

Techniques:+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups.

IV. PROCEDURE 1. Organization:

- Greetings: T – Ss greet each other.

- Checking attendance: Who’s absent today? Ss: Answer

2. Warm up: (5’)

Greet students

Review the previous lesson by playing the “Word chain game”

- Put phonics cards ‘Bb, ball, bed, bee’ on the board

- Point to the student. He/She says the first word in the sequence, e.g., Bb

- Point to another student. He/She repeats the previous word, then says the next word in the sequence, e.g., Bb  ball

- Continue with each student saying the next word in the sequence

Give feedback 3. New lesson:

Activity 6. Circle the pictures of the words that start with the b sound ( 8’)

Act 1: Circle the pictures (3’)

Use the phonics cards to elicit the pictures starting the b sound

Ask students to circle these pictures

Act 2 : Thumbs Up or Down(5’)

Number the pictures from 1 to 6.

Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the picture starts with b sound and put their thumbs down if the picture starts with b sound.

e.g. Teacher: (point to the first picture in the book)

Picture number 1, Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs down)

Teacher: Good! Picture number 2? Up or Down?

Activity 7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the b

sound. Say the b word (Track 13)(12’) Act 1: Listen, point and repeat (5’)

Show the students the bear phonics card. Point to it and say: /b/ - bear. Ask them to repeat.

Mime growling like a bear and say /b/, bear.

Encourage the students to do the same

Say the letter and ask students do the action

Play the CD

Ask students listen, point to and repeat the word Act 2: Colour the pictures of the words that start with the b sound. Say the b word(7mins)

Point to pictures and have students name them

Name some colours and ask the students to repeat

Ask the students to colourthe pictures which have Bb in them

Give the students four minutes to colour in the

‘bee’ and ‘bed’. Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

II. Production (10’) Act 1 : Whispers

Line up the students into two teams of six.

Show the phonics cards to the first student only in each group

This student whispers the word to the next student behind.

7. Listen. Point and repeat

The students continue whispering the word until the final student shouts out the word

4.Consolidation: (2’)

Consolidate the content of the lesson 5. Homework: (1’)

Read the words on the text book.

Activity 1.Trace and say (Page 4 – Activity Book)(5’)

Act 1 : Revision of letter B, its sound(2’) Speaking

Write on the board the big B and small b

Point to the letter B and say out loud “This is the letter B /bi/. The letter B says /b/”

Point to the letter b and say out loud “This is the letter b/bi/. The letter bsays /b/”

Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary

Act 2: How to write letter B(3’) Writing& Speaking

Demonstrate how to write thebig Bstroke by stroke

Draw an example of letter B using dashed lines

Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter B

Have some students practice tracing letter B on the board

Have students trace letter B in the books and say /b/ after each finished letter

Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter b

Activity 2.Trace and match (page 4 – Activity Book)(5’)

Act 1: Writing & Reading

Copy the 2 boxes from the book to the board and put the phonics card of bed up between them

Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Aa and Bb into the box

Demonstrate the writing

Draw linesto the correct pictures that correspond to each letter

Act 1: Revision of words starting with letter Aa and Bb–‘Jump Up’ game(3’)

Speaking& Listening

Show up the 6phonics cards one by one. For example, show the card withball, but incorrectly say bed or bee, the students should stand; if the words are correctly said, they should jump up

Do the same procedure for the other 5 cards

Give feedback Act 2:Colouring(7’)

Have students name pictures

Ask the student to colour the pictures that correspond to each letter

Go around and give help as needed

Answer keys: Aa – apple, ant Bb – bed, ball

Activity 4.What is it? Colour the Bb letters and say (page 5 – Activity book) (5’)

Speaking

Ask students to find the shapes that have the letters Bb and colour them

Ask them to say what appears in the picture

Go around providing any necessary help
