UNIT 12: Yy Lesson 3
1. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to:
- Read and say the three Yy words correctly - Recognize and say an extra Yy word correctly

1. Organization (1’):
- Greet Ps.
- Check Ps’ attendance.

- Play the song from Unit 2 (Track 78), the students listen and sing along - Get Ps to play the Chinese Whisper games, using some sentences such as:
I have a yo-yo/
I have a yellow yo-yo/
It is a yellow yatch/
I like yellow.
3. New lesson (25’):

- Point to the letters and elicit their names and sounds.
- Explain the activity.
6. Find and colour the Yy letter
- Ask the students to find and colour the Yy letters.
- Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.
- Ask the student to name the item.
Allow them to lour the rest letters with other colours.
*Khôi Nguyên (2B) colour 3 pictures that have Yy in them
Extension: Which One Is Missing? Game (5 ’ ) Put the phonics cards (Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt) on the board.
- Give the Ps 10 seconds to look at the cards.
- Have Ps close their eyes and then you take away one cards.
- Tell the Ps to open their eyes and name the missing cards.
Activity 2 (8’):
- Show the students the yogurt phonics card. Point to it and say: /j/ - yogurt. Ask them to repeat.
- Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt.
Encourage the students to do the same
- Say the letter. The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can).
- Play the CD. The students listen, point to and repeat the word.
- Point to the picture and have students name them.
- Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /j/ sound.
Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.
* Khôi Nguyên (2B) listen, point and colour 2 pictures that have Yy in them
Follow up (5’): get Ps to choose one word then draw the letter Y and the picture of the item in their notebooks.
7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the y sound. Say the y words.

4. Consolidation (5’): Practice writing - Ask a student to come to the board.
- Say a word from the lesson and tell the students to write the word on the board.
- Ask the rest of the class for correction.
- Repeat with as many students as necessary.
5. Homework:Ask Ps to practice writing the letter Yy and the word at home.

- Review the sound of the letter Yy, four Yy words and recognize the corresponding pictures

- First, the students trace the letters in the boxes.
- Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures.

- Ask the students to look at the pictures, say the word and circle the letter their names begin with.

Activity 4 (8’):
- Explain the activity.
- Point to the letters and say the sounds.
- Point to the pictures and elicit their names.
- Ask the students to colour the shape that corresponds to the initial letter of each item any colour they like.
- Go around the classroom and help.
- Collect some students’ books and correct.

4. Consolidation: Draw it (7’):

- In a limited time, the students quickly draw it.
- The student who finishes first wins a point for his/ her team.
- The team with more points wins.
5. Homework: Ask students to revise the letter Yy, its sound and the words beginning with y at home.
