Date of preparing: WEEK 19 - Period 35 UNIT 8: Lesson 1

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will able to recognize and

pronounce the letter Hh and its sound correctly, understand, recognize and say the three Hh words, write the letter Hh.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening, reading, writing and speaking skill.

3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English.

II. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, pictures, computer, speakers and projector.

2. Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

III. METHOD

- Communicative approach.

Techniques:+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups.

IV. PROCEDURE 1. Organization(1’)

- Greetings: T – Ss greet each other.

- Checking attendance: Who’s absent today? Ss: Answer

2. Warm up: (5’) - Sing a song 3. New lesson:

Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content Act 1: Listen, point and repeat. Colour (Track 47):

Introduction of letter H, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Hh (7 mins)

- Use a card with letter Hh (or write on board the letter Hh) to introduce to the students the new lesson.

- Instruct the students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter H /eɪtʃ/.

The letter H says /h/.”

- Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation (letter H /eɪtʃ/ and its sound /h/)

- Use the phonics cards with hat, hen, and hippo, read the words out loud and have students repeat.

- Use gestures (hand actions) to help the students to understand the meanings of the three words.

- Stick the cards on board and have the students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order).

- Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

Activity: Sit and Stand Game (3 mins)

- Show the 3 phonics cards one by one. For example,

1.Listen, point and repeat. Colour.

show the card with hen, but incorrectly say hippo or hat, the students will stand; if the words are correctly said, they will stay sitting.

- Do the same procedure for the other two cards.

- Give feedback

Act 2: Listen and point. Colour. (Track 48): Read the words with preceding “a”(5 mins)

- Point to the hen with a hat and say: a hen with a hat - Have the students listen and repeat the expression for

several times

- Do the same procedure for the hippo with the hat.

- Play the CD

- Pupils listen and point to the hen, hat and hippo Activity: coloring (2 mins)

- Ask the student to open the activity book, on page 51, trace and colour the letter Hh

Acting out game: optional (3 mins)

- Says the words hen; the students do the gestures following teacher’s talk (not teacher’s action).

- Continue with the other words.

-Students who do incorrectly have to sing or dance or do any other requests

Act 3: Chant and show! (Track 49) (10 mins)

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have the students sing the chant with hat. Do the same with hen and hippo.

- The whole class sings the whole chant. Do the chant again using gestures for each word.

- Give feedback

4.Consolidation:(2’) Consolidate the content of the lesson 5. Homework: (1’) Read the words on the text book.

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will able practice the letter, sound and three words buy some activities

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening & speaking skill

3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English II. TEACHING AIDS

- Have students play a game: where is the letter - Divide class into three groups,

- Deliver photocopies of pages from some story books for each group.

- Pupils search and circle the letter Hh on these pages in 3 minutes - The winner is the group that circles the most Hh

3. New lesson:

Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content Act 1.Listen, read along. (Track 50):

Listen and read ( 5 mins)

- Point to the object hat, pupils read.

- Repeat with hen and hippo

- Play the CD, have pupils listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story - Play the CD again, pupils listen and look at their book

and read along

- Individual read again - Give feedback

Guessing game (5mins)

Divide class into 2 groups, each group select 1 pupil to the front of the class, stand back to class.

Show the word for the other pupils.

Ask pupils to use gestures to describe the word. (words are not allowed)

Who guesses correctly first will get 1 point

Which group gets the most points will be the winner Activity: pairs work (5 mins)

- Have pupils work in pairs: one reads, while the other listens and checks, give feedback

- Swap roles

-Move around and give necessary help Act 2 : sight words (5mins)

Point to and say the sight words: a, happy, my

Have pupils listen and repeat

Act 3. Song (Track 51) Let’s sing ( 5 mins)

- Put the hat, hen and hippo phonics cards up on the board.

- Point to the hippo with the hat and say: “a hippo with a hat”. The students repeat.

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song.

- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.

- Play the CD again. The pupils sing and do corresponding actions.

Activity: Which One Is Missing? Game (5 mins)

- Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on the board.

- Give the students a minute to look at the cards.

- Have students close their eyes and then you take away one cards.

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the missing cards .

4.Consolidation: (2’) Consolidate the content of the lesson 5. Homework: (1’) Read the words on the text book.
