D. Anticipated problems: Students may have difficulties in identifying the tenses to use in different paragraphs of the letter.

- Students might be poor in ideas as they have never visited anyone living far from them.

PRE WRITING(10m)

I. Outline:

First paragraph:

- Say when you arrived and who met you at the airport / the bus stop / train station.

Second paragraph:

- What you have done - Places you have visited - People you have met - Food you have tried

* T. Set the scene:

Imagine you are visiting your relatives or friends in another part of Viet Nam or in a different country.

Look at these

questions and write the answers for them.

- Tell how you feel

- Say what interest you most - Mention when you return home.

II. Questions and answers:

1. Which place are you visiting?

2. When did you arrive?

3. Who met you at the bus station / airport / train station?

4. Which places have you visited?

5. Who have you meet?

6. What kinds of food have you tried?

7. What have you bought?

8. How do you feel?

9. What interests you most?

10. When are you going to go home?

WHILE WRITING (18 m)

- Ss answer these questions, ten correct answer which together make a complete a letter to about their trip.

- Students write the letter individually

II. Write:

Write a letter to your family about your trip to Viet Nam

Example ideas:

Dear Mom, First paragraph:

I arrived at Da Nang airport / train station / bus station at 2 pm / 8 am / late in the afternoon / at night / etc. on Tuesday / Wednesday / Saturday...

Hoa / Nam / Uncle Tan / Aunt Huong met me at the airport / train station / bus station. then she / he took me home by taxi / motorike / bicycle...

Second paragraph:

I’ve visited / been to many places like the beach, the Cham Museum, Marble Mountains (Ngò Hµnh S¬n), supermarkets, the water park, etc.

I’ve tried different foods: seafood, Da Nang specialties...

I’ll visit Hoi An and My Son tomorrow / on Sunday...

Third paragraph:

I feel so happy and enjoy myself so much. The people here are so nice and friendly, the foods are so delicious, and the sights are so beautiful.

I will leave Da Nang at 2 pm / 7 am... next Thursday / Sunday,... and will arrive home at 11 pm / 5 am.... . Please pick me up at the airport / bus station / train station...

- T prepares 10 cards with numbers on one side and the infinitive verbs and the verbs in the past on the other. Stick the cards on the board

- Ss are devided into two teams and in turn, they choose two numbers. Turn over the cards and see if they match ex: go-went

III. New lesson THE PAST SIMPLE Activity 1:Exercise 1 (15m)

Tan : What did Ba do on the weekend?

Phong : He went to see the movie called

“ Ghosts and Mosters”

Tan : When did he see it?

Phong : He saw it on Saturday afternoon at Two o’clock.

Form: verb + ed /irregular verb (V2).

Meaning : đã

1 : A: What did Lan do on the weekend?

B:She went to the concert.

A: When did she go there?

B:She went there on Saturday at 8pm.

Activity 2: Exercise 2: (10m) 1.Hoa baked a cake.

2.Hai hung colorful lamps on the wall/in the room.

3.Hanh bought flowers.

4.Tan painted a picture of Hanoi.

5.Nga and My went shopping.

Activity 3: THE PAST SIMPLE WITH WISH (12m)

I wish I were taller

-Form : I wish + S + Past .

- Having some students give the formation of past simple tense

Set the scene: “This is the conversation between Tan and Phong.They are talking about what Ba did on the weekend .

Ss do exercise 1 in pairs

- Having some pairs present in front of the class

Set the scene: “Lan and her friends are holding a farewell party for Maryam.

- Ss work in groups of three using the words and the pictures in the box to write the things they did to prepare for the party.
