WEEK 4

PERIOD 7 Unit 2: Letter O

LESSON 3 - ( PART 6-7) I. AIMS:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Recognize and say the three Oo words correctly - Do the corresponding actions

- Read the story Sing letter Oo song

Vocabulary :olive, orange, octopus, omelette 2. Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking.

3. Attitude:-Recognize and say a new O word correckly

Requirements:students with disability can to paint the picture but slow

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher’s: I-Learn My Phonics Grade 2, lesson plan, CD Phonics cards . 2. Students’: Pupil’s Book , Activity Book .

III. TEACHING METHODS:

- Communicative approach

- Techniques: + Ask and anwer( say individually) + Work in pairs/ groups. Discuss

IV. PROCEDURES: Time 35’- 40 1. Organization: ( 2mins)

Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon. How are you?

- Checking for the students’ attendence

2.Warm up: (5mins)

* Lead-in Activity: Draw it Game

- Divide the class into 2 teams, A and B. Ask two students, one from each team to come to the board. Name a word item from the previous lesson.

- The students quickly draw it. The student who finishes first will get 1 point.

- Do the same with the other words.

- Give feedback.

3. New lesson.

6. Say the o words. Colour the o words

* Thumbs Up or Down

- Ask the students to close their books.

- Hold up the phonics cards one at a time.

- Ask the students to verify the word the teacher says by putting their thumbs up or down.

e.g. Teacher: (holding up the octopus phonics card) Orange. Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs down) Teacher: Good! What it is?

Class: Octopus!

* Say the o words. Colour the o words (5mins) - Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/

crayons.

- Name some colours and ask the students to repeat.

- Use the structure: “I like…” and ask the students hold up the colour pencils/ crayons they like.

- Show the picture in the book to the whole class.

- Point to the orange and say: an orange.

- Have the students say the word and colour it.

- Give the students 2 minutes to circle the pictures that have Oo in them.

- Go around the classroom asking the students to say the o words they are colouring.

Activity 7: reading and listening method (10mins)

- Show the students the omelette phonics card.

- Point to it and say: // - omelette. Ask them to repeat.

- Mime cracking and beating eggs and say: // - omelette. Encourage the students to do the same - Point to the pictures, the students do

corresponding actions and say the words.

- Divide the class into groups of two.

- The first student point to the pictures and the other student say the word then change the roles.

- Ask the students to colour in the pictures of the words that start with the // sound.

* Craftwork (3mins) - Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

- Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks.

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- The three first students who finish will show

* Say the o words. Colour the o words

7. Listen, point and repeat.

Colour the pictures of the words that start with the o sound. Say the o words

- Divide the class into two teams A and B.

- Hide the phonics cards around the classroom.

- Write the following for each team:

1: olive, orange 2: octopus, omelette

- The students in each team have to ‘hunt’ for the phonics cards of their team.

- Play the song (Track 12) from lesson 2

- The first team to find all its words before the end of the song is the winner.

4. Consolidation:( 2mins)

- In this lesson, pupils have learnt.

- Recognize and say the three O words.

- Write on the board the big O and small a

- Point to the letter O and say out loud “This is the letter O /âu/. The letter O says /o/”

- Point to the letter o and say out loud “This is the letter O /âu/. The letter o says /o/”

- Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

- Ask sts with disability say and read N

* ( Requirements: students with disability can say aloud very slowly )

- Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity 2: Writing & Reading method(5mins) - Copy the 2 boxes from the book to the board and put the phonics card of bed up between them - Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Aa, Bb and Cc into the box

- Demonstrate the writing

- Draw lines to the correct pictures that correspond to each letter

- Go around the classroom and providing any necessary help

- Ask students with disability say the letter and trace

- Ask students to confirm the word you say by putting their thumbs up or down and give the correct answer

* Requirements: students with disability can see and practise

Activity 4: reading and writing method(10mins)

- Ask students write the letter Oo in the box - Have students name pictures

- Ask the student to colour the pictures that start with the o sound

- Ask students with disability to colour

- students with disability to colour right picture - Go around and give help as needed

3. Write the letter Oo. Tick (ü) the pictures that begin with the g sound (Page 5 – Activity Book) Activity 1:

Revision of the letter from Unit 1 to Unit 2– Thumbs Up or Down game
