UNIT 8: COUNTRY LIFE ANF CITY LIFE A. Objectives:

1. Mục tiêu: Sau khi hoàn thành bài học, học sinh có thể:

- Nói về sự khác nhau giữa hai nơi chốn, địa điểm.

- Nói về các sự kiện và những thay đổi trong tương lai.

- Viết thư cho bạn về nơi ở của mình.

2. Trọng tâm ngôn ngữ:

- Present progressive:- to talk about the future

- to show changes with the verbs to get and to become - Comparative and superlative adjectives

3. Từ vựng: Các từ theo chủ điểm cuộc sống ở thành phố và nông thôn - facility, accessible, rural, urban, ….

- permanently, definitely, traditional(ly),…

- to create, to decrease, to provide, to struggle,…

- To supply somebody with, to change for the better,…

4. Kĩ năng cần đạt:

- Nói về những thay đổi ở nơi mình ở.

- Nghe hội thoại ngắn điền thông tin thiếu vào chỗ trống.

- Đọc về sự khác nhau của cuộc sống ở nông thôn và thành thị.

- Viết thư cho bạn kể về nơi mình ở theo các câu hỏi gợi ý.

*Lưu ý:

+ Học sinh yếu: Bài viết có thể trả lời các câu hỏi gợi ý bằng các câu đơn giản rồi ghép lại thành nội dung bức thư.

+ Học sinh tự học: Bài tập ở phần Language focus một giáo viên có thể hướng dẫn và làm mẫu tại lớp một hoặc hai mẩu đối thoại. Phần còn lại giao về nhà cho học sinh tự học.

B. Unit plan:

- Lesson 1: (Getting started + Listen and read ) Reading for details about the differences between the city life and country life.

- Lesson 2: (Speak + Language Focus 3) Speaking about the changes , using the present progressive tense with "get" and "become" .

- Lesson 3: (Listen + Language Focus 1,2) Listening for details and Further Practice in present progressive tense .

- Lesson 4: (Read) Reading for details about the problems of farmers moving to the city.

- Lesson 5: (Write) Writing a letter to a friend about their neiborhood.

- Lesson 6: ( Language Focus 4,5) Further Practice in comparative and superlative adjectives.

LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED, LISTEN AND READ A. Objectives:

1. The aims: By the end of the lesson ss will be able to listen and read a dialogue to know about Hoa and Na’s opinions of the country life and city life

2. The knowlege

- Standard: Practice the dialogue and answer the questions - Higher: Talk about their ideas for the country life and city life 3. Language focus.

+ Vocabulary: relative(n) ; entertainment(n); facility (n); prefer(v) ; province(n);

accessible(a); definitely(adv) ; simple(a); clean (a); peaceful (a); remote(a);

+ Structures : - Present perfect tense

Step 1: Pre - reading(12’)

Today , we are going to read the dialogue about the differences between the city life and country life . Let's start with some new words.

1.Vocabulary

* Checking vocabulary: R. O. R 2. Brainstorming ( Getting started )

- Get Ss to talk about city life and country life . The words in the box of getting started may help you .

Answers:

Step2: While - reading (14’) 1. True / false statements

- Ask Ss to work in pairs to predict the true / false statements .

- Call on some Ss to report their

predictions and write them on the board.

- Ask Ss to read the dialogue between Na and Hoa and compare their ideas

- Give feedback and get more information - Call on some pairs to practice the

- Talk about the changes of the town.

- Standard : Talk about the changes of the town.

- Higher: Ask and answer the questions about the changes of their hometown/ home village.

3. Language focus

+ Vocabulary: busy(a); dirty(a); offer(v); get(v) = become(v).

+ Structures: Present progressive and comparative adjectives 4. Skills:

+ Speaking: Talk about the changes of a town; ask and answer the questions about the changes of the countryside.

III. New lesson(34’) Step 1: Presentation (7’)

- Set the scene : “ Hoa' s grandmother is 78 . Five years ago , she was 73 and she was stronger than she is now ".

- Ask Ss to make a sentence about her health.

Step 2: Practice (9’) Drill: (Language focus 3) - Prepare six cards of cues.

- Model first two cues, the whole class repeat chorally, then some sts read out individually.

- Give a new cues, and ask a new st to repeat.

- Go on until most of the sts in class can remember the struture.

Step 3: Production (18’) 1. Speaking 1

- Ask Ss to look at the two pictures on page 73 and talk to their partners about the changes of the town . The words in the box under the pictures may help you - Write the word prompts on the board so that Ss can speak easily.

- Monitor and help Ss speak.

- What is the form?

- Look at the adverbs of time in the dialogue. Are they at present or in the future?

- Set the scene “Aunt Hang is talking to Lan on the phone. She is coming to visit Lan in Hanoi “
