By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to practice the relative clause ( defining clause and non- defining clause).

* Defining clause:

To make the sentence have clear meaning.

Can use “ that” instead of “ who/ which”

Can not be omitted.

* Non – defining clause:

To give more information for the sentence.

Can be omitted.

Separated by 2 commas.

T: If we omit the relative clause, does the sentence have clear meaning?

Ss: Yes.

T: We call it “ defining clause” .We can replace “which” by “ that”

Almost countries in the world have a day for children to think of their mothers.

Viet Nam is no exception. Vietnamese people choose Lunar July 15th as a day to appreciate all mothers and we have a special name for this occasion, the Vu lan season.

On this day, people often go to pagodas to pray for the best things their mothers. It is a tradition that every child wears a rose on his or her shirt. Those whose mothers are still alive wear red roses and those whose mothers pass away wear white roses.

A Vietnamese musician wrote a song named Bong Hong CaiAo to praise all mothers. He compared mothers to the sun, the smile and the stars. On this occasion, everyone hopes to wears red roses since the greatest happiest of all. To Vietnamese people, is to have a mother alive.

Vietnamese people are proud of this traditional celebration because it is a characteristic of a culture based on sentimental value.
