Rotation Engineer Program (REP)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The following information intended to provide background on the Program.

What is the REP?

The RE is a corporate funded program intended to attract the best, new technical talent from top tier schools. It provides a unique opportunity for a small number of select RCGs (Recent College Graduates) to receive special training, mentoring and coaching that sets the foundation for an accelerated career development path.

Who is eligible for the REP?

We consider only RCGs with degrees in Engineering or Applied Sciences from priority schools with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Candidates must also have the permanent right to work in the US without sponsorship.

How many people are (or will be) in the Program?

In recent years, the program has included approximately 25 Rotation Engineers (REs) per year.

Are there specific majors or degrees that Intel recruits for the REP?

We consider all engineering majors with an emphasis on Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. However, we also have needs for Chemical, Materials, and Mechanical Engineers. We place a major emphasis on graduate degrees (MS and PhD), but we also select a small number of undergrads (BS).

Are there specific skills or backgrounds that you look for (other than educational)?

Because of the high expectations that are placed on REs (need to assume responsibility and contribute quickly), we find that the most successful candidates are those who have strong organizational and time management skills. This is often evidence, for instance, through active participation in student organizations or volunteer work while maintaining a high GPA.

We also expect REs to be highly self-motivated and independent workers with strong potential for leadership (influencing skills). This is most often evidenced through serving in leadership positions in extra-curricular activities. Lastly the ability to work well in a dynamic team environment is a necessity in Intel’s fast-paced environment.

How does Intel select candidates for the REP?

Individuals who meet the pre-requisite requirements are screened for fit with the program by the REP Managers;

technical screening for fit for Intel is done by representatives from the REP Business Partners. Successful candidates are then invited to visit Intel for on-site interviews; behavioral interviews are conducted by

representatives from the REP and technical interviews by the program’s Business Partners. [Business partners are those technical business groups (BG) who have been identified as participants in the REP and will be

‘sponsoring’ REs within their organizations]

When do REs start in the Program and where do they work?

REs typically start in July. Therefore all need to have completed their degrees by June. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis for graduate students defending their work who will start later in the fall timeframe. REs are located at all the major U.S. sites (OR, SC, FM, AZ, Austin). Cross-site rotations and rotations abroad are also possible.

Are REs full-time employees?

Yes. RE’s are full time employees and have the exact same benefits as any other employee at Intel. You will participate in performance reviews, development plans, and technical and soft skill development training sessions.

How long is the Program?

Total length of time in the Program is 18 months, consisting of three six-month rotations.

How are rotations selected?

Each RE will work with the REP Manager and their Mentor to create a rotation roadmap for the 18 months once they are selected for the Program. The first rotation will be done inside of a sponsoring Business Group; the second and third rotations will be selected based on RE interests and Business Group needs. REs have completed rotations within many groups, including: marketing, legal, architecture, developer relations, the executive office, and in the fab.

What happens at the end of 18 months when the RE has completed their time in the Program?

RE’s are guaranteed placement within the sponsoring business group. The RE, REP Managers, and sponsoring business group representative will determine collaboratively the exact position with respect to interest, skill, and concentration and business need.
