LESSON 2: SPEAK, LISTEN A. Objectives:

1. The aims: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to describe positions of things in the kitchen and ss will be able to listen to a dialogue about how to cook a meal and check the right items

2. Needing to get the knowledge

- Standard: describe positions of things in the kitchen, Listen to a dialogue about how to cook a meal and check the right items

- Higher: describe positions of things in the kitchen and other places in their house, Write a passage to guide how to cook Chinese fried rice

3. Language focus.

+ Vocabulary: bowl(n); plate(n) ; rug(n); cushion(n). fried rice(n); garlic(n);

teaspoon(n); until(prep); ham(n).

+ Structures: - The + N + be + prepositions of position + the + N S

- Let’s put …+ prepositions of position + the + N 4. Skills:

+Speaking skills: Make describing sentences

+ Listening: Listen to the conversation and choose the correct items + Writing: Write an instruction of cooking a meal

II. Warm up and revision (5’)

Two students read the dialogue and write new words: steamer, stove, cupboard, saucepan

* Warm up Bingo:

- Ask Ss to write down on their notebooks 5 things you can eat . - Prepare a list of food . Then call out each word in a loudvoice

- Ss listen to the teacher carefully . If anyone has the same things, they cross them out. The first person crossing out all 5 things shouts “ Bingo “ and wins the game .

- Suggested list of food: Chickens, beef, cake, candy, garlic, noodles, bread, rice, ham, peas ..

III. New lesson(35’) Step1: Pre - listening(4’) * Predictions:

- Get Ss to look at page 30 and guess 4 things they use to cook the "Special Chinese Fried Rice “

- Give feedback.

Step 2: While – listening(8’)

- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask them to listen and check their predictions . - Turn on the tape once more to check the answers again .

- Give feedback

Step 3: Pre- speaking (8’)

* Vocabulary:

- use the picture to elicit the words

* Checking vocabulary: Matching - Use the picture of furniture and words and ask students to match the words with the right furniture in the picture.

1. Predictions

- Look at the pictures on page 30 then guess 4 things

2. Listen

Answer key:

3. Vocabulary

Step 4: While – speaking(10’)

- Get Ss to work in pairs, talking about the position of each item in the picture.

- Call on some pairs to demonstrate in front of the class.

Step 5: Post – speaking(5’)

- Set the scene : "Mrs Vui bought new furniture for her living room, but she can not decide where to put it . You should help her to arrange the furniture”

- Ask Ss to look at the picture and talk about their ideas.

- Model.

- Go around and help students.

- Call on some pairs to speak in front of the class.

- Ask Ss to practice speaking:

5. Practice

Suggested answers:

- Let us put the clock on the wall, between the shelf and the picture.

- Ok. I think we ought to put the TV and the stereo on the shelf.

- I think the coffee table should be between the couch and the armchair.

- Let's put the telephone next to the couch. - I think we should put the magazines above the books on the shelves.

- I think the shelves ought to be at one of the corners, opposite the couch...

IV. Summary ( 2’): - Listening about how to make a meal.

- Talking about the positions of furniture in the house.

V. Homework ( 2’): - Study the lesson
