UNIT 3: Letter Dd Lesson 2 I. OBJECTIVE:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will able practice the letter, sound and three words buy some activities.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening & speaking skill.

3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher’s: books, pictures, computer, loudspeaker.

2. Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

III. METHOD:

- Communicative approach.

Techniques: + Game:

+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups.

IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization:

- Greetings: T – Ss greet each other.

- Checking attendance: Who’s absent today? Ss: Answer

2. Warm up: (5’) - Greet students.

- Choose4 students.

- Give individual students each phonics cards. (Dd, dog, drum, dragon)

Allow them 1 minute tosay the sound of the letter and words and do corresponding action.

3. New lesson:

I. Presentation & Practice. (30mins) Lead-in Activity: Yell it Out. (5mins)

- Ask students to work in pairs.

- Have a pair come to the front of the classroom and face each other with their hands behind their backs.

- Stick a phonics card onto each student’s back.

- Students have to look at the other student’s phonics card and be the first to yell out the word.

- Repeat the activity with the remaining pairs.

- Ask the students to point to the picture of the words you say.

- Play the CD. Have the students listen to the story once.

- Play the CD again. The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story.

- Read the printed words then let the students point to the pictures and say the words.

- Ask students work in pairs. One reads the printed words while the other points to the pictures and says the words.

Activity: Say the Sight Words. (3mins)

- Point to and say the sight words: look, at, the.

- Have students repeat.

- Call on some students read them aloud and correct pronunciation. (if any)

Activity: Word Chain Game. (5mins)

- Put phonics cards on the board in a given order, e.g. dog, drum, dragon.

- Invite the first student. He/ she says the first word in the sequence, i.e. dog.

- Invite another student. He/she says the next word in the sequence, i.e. drum.

- Continue with each student saying the next word in the sequence.

- Remove one phonics card. Ask students repeat the sequence, including the missing word.

- Continue the same procedure until students can say the whole sequence from memory.

2. Song. (Track 24) (5mins)

- Put the dog, drum and dragon phonics cards up on the board.

- Point to the dragon, the drum and say: “It is a dragon with a drum, boom, boom-boom”.

The students repeat.

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song. Students can turn to page 72.

- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.

- Play the CD again. The students sing and do corresponding actions.

Activity: Correct the Teacher. (5mins)

- Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time.

- Ask individual students to correct teacher’s statement.

4. Consolidation: Consolidate the content of the lesson.

5. Homework: Read the words on the text book.

UNIT 3: Letter Cc Lesson 3 I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will able practice the letter and the sound which they learned through some activities.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening, reading, writing and speaking skill.

3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, flashcards, software, speakers and computer.

2. Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

III. METHOD:

- Communicative approach.

Techniques: + Work individually, in pairs/groups.

IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization:

- Greetings: T – Ss greet each other.

- Checking attendance: Who’s absent today? Ss: Answer

- Elicit the pictures by doing the actions and asking students to say the words.

- Follow the same procedure for the other letters.

- Ask students to match the upper case letters to their corresponding picture and lower case letters.

- Go around and provide any necessary help.

Activity: Sound and Word

- Divide students into 2 teams, A and B and put one of the phonics cards on the board.

- Ask a student from Team A to identify the sound (1 point), the picture (1 point), or both (2 points)

- Continue with a student from Team B.

- Write the points for each team on the board.

The team with the most points wins the game.

7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the c sound. Say the c word. (Track 19)

- Show the students the car phonics card.

- Point to it and say: /k/ - car. Ask them to repeat.

- Mime driving a car and say /k/, car.

Encourage the students to do the same.

- Say the letter and ask students do the action - Play the CD.

- Ask students listen, point to and repeat the word.

7. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the c sound. Say the c word. (7’) - Point to pictures and have students name them.

- Name some colours and ask the students to repeat.

- Ask the students to colour the pictures which have Cc in them.

- Give the students 4 minutes to colour in the

‘cat’ and ‘carrot’. Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

Activity: Craftwork.

- Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

- Ask them to choose one word and then draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks.

7. Listen. Point and repeat.

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- The three first students who finish can show their picture to the class.

4. Consolidation: Consolidate the content of the lesson.

5. Homework: Read the words on the text book.
