STORY TIME I.Objectives

1.Knowledge.

-To consolidate the sound of the letters Ee, Ff, Gg and Hh and the corresponding words

egg, elf, elephant, elbow ,fox, fish, frog, fork ,glass, goat, garden, gorrila ,hat, hen, hippo, horse

2. Skills: Listening, writing , speaking and reading.

3. Attitude.

- Educate Ss to be friendly with friends.

- Students love animals and tree with the sounds g II.Teaching aids:

T: teachers’ book, , CD, phonics cards ,paper including the lyrics of the chant Ss: Student’s book, colour. Activity book.

III. Teaching method: MAT, TPA.

B.Warm up ( 5’) Bingo game

-Prepare some bingo cards with the words in unit 5-8 and hand them out to the students

-Each bingo card should have a different set of words

-Say the words or show the pictures and have the students put a tick into the pictures in their bingo card

-The winner is the first student whose card is full of tick and who show Bingo C. New lesson ( 30’ )

-(book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time.

-Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite storybook character is.

-Prepare phonics cards of these word:

-Ask the students to read out the words - Ss: look and read.

- Ss: work individually.

-Invite students to guess what they think the story is about.

-Ask the students to open and look at the book.

-Ask them questions about what they can see in the pictures

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the elf in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s an) elf!

Teacher: (pointing to the hat in picture 1) A happy hippo with a ….

Class: hat! etc

-Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words.

-Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat.

- Ss: listen.

-Ask individual students to read the story aloud.

- Ss: work individually.

Extension (optional) (5 minutes) -Ask students to close their book

-Read out a few sentences from the story and ask the students to complete them

e.g. Teacher: look at my…

Class: garden! Etc - Ss: work in groups.

* Activity 2. (5 mins) -Explain the activity

-Ask the students to draw lines from the items to the hipp’s garden

-Ask individuals to name the items.

- Ss: work individuals.

Act Out (5 mins)

-Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words.

-Invite the students to mime them (the hippo, the elf, the garden, the fish, the frog).

-Have the students come to the front of the

-Ask the students to name the items.

-Ss: remember the letter.

-Ask them to put a tick () into the pictures that correspond to each letter.

-Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the letter, the sound and the item.

* Activity 2 (6’) -Explain the activity.

- Ask the students to name the items, the letters and the sounds.

- Ask them to draw a line to match the big and small letters with the corresponding pictures

- Ss: look at the pictures and match.

- Ss: work individually and pairs.

-Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the sound or the item.

* Activity 3 (5’) -Explain the activity.

-Ask the students to name the items.

-Define the beginning sound for the corresponding item

- Ss: remember the sound.

-Ask students to write the sound into the books.

- Ss: work induividually.

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the letter, the sound and the pictures.

-Ask the students to read letters and callout the shapes indicating for the letters

Who is faster (7’)

-Divide class into two teams, seating two sides of the class

-Assign the students in each team the words from U5-8

-Put a flag or a ball in the middle of the class

-Randomly read a word

-The students who are assigned that word from two team race to pick up the flag or the ball

- Ss: work in groups.

-The student who gets the flag or the ball first wins and gains 1 point for the team The teams with the most points wins 4.Consolidation: (2’)

-T asks whole class to read aloud the letters.

4.Use the code and write the letters. Says the sounds.
