Date of preparing: Period 37- Week 19

UNIT 8: Uu Lesson 3

1. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Reade and say the three Uu words correctly.

- Recognize and say a new Uu word correctly 1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: up, umbrella, ugly, under 2. Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher: CD, phonic cards

2. Student: student’s book, crayons/colour pencils III. METHODS: T.P.R; games.

IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization (1’) - Greet Ps.

- Check Ps’ attendance

2. Warm up (5’): Act It Out

- Choose a student to come to the front of the classroom.

- Show him/her a phonics card or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out.

- The remaining students try to guess the correct answer.

- The first student to have the correct answer comes to the front of the class and the activity continues.

3. New lesson (27’)

- Get Ps to open their books on page 37.

- Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/

crayons.

- Point to the pictures and elicit their name.

- Play the recording twice. Ask the students to listen

- Get them to compare their answers in pairs.

- Check and correct.

Extension: Memory Game (4’)

- Ask the students to memorise the order of items in the first row of the activity.

- Ask the students to close their books then teacher covers 1 item in the first row.

- Ask the students to guess the name of the covered item.

- Repeat the activity with other items or other rows.

Activity 2 ( 8’):

- Show the students the under phonics card. Point to it and say: /Ʌ/ - under. Ask them to repeat.

- Point under the desk and say: /Ʌ/ - under.

Encourage the students to do the same

- Say the letter. The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can).

- Play the CD. The students listen, point to and repeat the word.

- Point to the picture and have students name them.

- Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the // sound.

- Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

Extension: Craftwork (5’)

- Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

- Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks.

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- The first three students who finish will show their pictures to the class.

7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the u sound. Say the u words.

4. Consolidation (3’)

- Get Ps to say the letter and the pictures again.

- Summarize the lesson.

5. Homework: Ask students to draw a picture that start with t sound at home.

UNIT 8: Uu Lesson 4

1. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Review the sound of the letter Uu, four Uu words and recognize the corresponding pictures.

- Write the letter Uu 1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: revision

2. Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3. Attitude: Teach students to write the letters carefully.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher:, phonic cards, software, colored chalks/ markers 2. Student: Activity book, crayons/colour pencils

III. METHODS: T.P.R; games;

IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization (1’) - Greet Ps.

- Have the students sing and act to the chant.

3. Revision & Practice (26’)

- Write on the board the big U and small u.

- Have pupils to say the name of the letter and its sound chorally, then individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary.

- Demonstrate how to write the big U and the lower letter u.

- Have students trace letter U and u in the books.

Activity 2 (8’):

- Explain the activity

- First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

- Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures.

- Go around and give help as needed.

Extension: Sound and word

- Divide the class into two teams, A and B.

- Put up the phonics cards (of Part 2) on the board.

- Ask a student from team A to identify the sound (one point) and the word (one point).

- Continue with a student from team B.

- Write the points for each team on the board.

- The team with more points wins.

Activity 3 (7’):

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to write the letter Uu in the box.

- Tell the students to listen for words that begin with the u sound.

- Ask the students to stand when they hear the words beginning with u sound and sit when they hear words beginning with another sound.

- Say: ugly, up, ring, snake, umbrella, under, tiger and ask the students to circle the correct pictures.

- Go around the classroom and help.

Activity 4 (6’):

- Explain the activity.

- Read the words.

- Ask the students to use their pencils to draw an umbrella and a tent in the provided spaces.

- The student finishes first will raise his/ her hand and shows his/ her pictures to the teacher.

- Ask the students to color their pictures. Go around the classroom and provide any necessary help.

Then circle the pictures that begin with the u sound.

4. Consolidation: Letter Writing Race Game (4’)

- Draw a letter U in the air and ask the students to draw the same in the air.

- Mime the action and ask the students to guess the words.

- Say the correct word loudly and tell the students to do the corresponding actions.

5. Homework: Ask students to review their lesson at home.
