Solar energy has been used for generating electricity since 1954. Solar panels are installed on the roofs of houses to turn the energy of the sun into the electricity that people can use for heating, cooking, lighting and many other purposes. In order to get solar energy, we need solar panels and the sun. One of the advantages of solar energy is that solar panels are totally silent and non-polluting. However, solar energy also has some disadvantages. We can only generate solar energy during the daytime because the system depends on sunlight.
The main disadvantage of solar energy is that solar panels are expensive. Scientists are doing their best to reduce the cost of solar panels so that more and more people can use this environmentally friendly source of energy.
