Lesson 4. Read ( P 68- 69).

A. Objectives:By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to read a text about children’s emotion on Father’s Day in the USA and in Australia.

* Attitude: Help Ss to be more confident to communicate with others and in learning English, to show their love to their parents

* Skill: Practice reading skill ( reading a text within 100- 200 words for detail information)

B. Teaching aids

T's preparation:Text books ,teacher book ,poster.

Ss' preparation: text book, notebook, homework C. Methods

- Communicative approach,Practice (Pelmanism, open prediction, comprehension question, write it up.)

I. Organisation (1m)

II. Warm up( revision). (4m)

* Pelmanism.

T prepares 5 cards with name of celebration and 5 cards with date of these celebration. Do not show the sides of words .Ask Ss to choose 2 cards ( one card with the name of celebration, one card with date ) is they go together they will get 1 mark.

III. New lesson.

1. Pre reading.(15m) a. Vocabulary.

T introduces vocabulary by explanation, translation and example.

Ss guess and write their prediction on the board

T asks Ss to read the text and check their prediction.

Ss read and check their prediction.

Ss read the text again and answer the questions given in books.

Ss practice writing their feeling, the memories and opinion about their father, mother or a relative.

IV. Summary.(2m)

T stresses on some main ideas of the lesson The content of the text.

Practice reading the text again, continue writing at home if they haven’t finished in class..

T asks Ss to remind the name of some celebration they have known.

How many celebration have you known? What are they?

Now I divide you into 2 groups,

Ss from each group write the name of the celebration on board in turn. Which group write more words will be the winner

1. Pre writing(15m) a. Vocabulary.

* Outline

- 1st paragraph: Reason

+ For children to express their feelings, memories and love for their parents

+ To enhance family traditions.

+ To bring family member together.

- 2nd paragraph: Details.

+ When? ( what season, month, day?) and why?

+ How ? ( have parties, sending cards, go on picnic..)

+ gift: for Mom and Dad.

+ food : ( special food: cake..) 3rd paragraph:

State your idea will be supported and hope the day will be celebrated nationwide.

2. While writing (15m)

*Example writing.

I think it’s necessary to have a day for our mother because it’s occasion for children to express their feeling, memories and love, to enhance family traditions and to bring family members together.

I think the first day of Sunday is suitable because it’s Autumn, the weather is nice and Sunday is the day off so we can have parties at home or going out for picnic. If you are not with your mother on that day we can send cards or presents. We can make many delicious dish for our Mom .

T introduces vocab using explanation, translation.

T checks vocab by Ro & Re

Ss listen and repeat and the copy down in the notebook

T sets a scene :

T: Do you have Mother’s Day/ father’s Day in Vietnam?

Ss: No

T: Do you think it’s necessary to have a day to celebrate for your Mom or Dad?

Ss: Yes.

T: Today you’re going to learn how to write a letter to share your ideas to your friends.

Ss look at the outline in book and draw their own outline ( write in notebook) ( group work )

T asks to write a letter to their friends to show the ideas that they should have a day to celebrate for their mother or father to show their love to them.

Ss use these outline to write a passage to share their ideas that they should have a day for their Mother / Father….

3. Post writing.(7m)

* Exhibition. T asks Ss to hang their writing on board,

T chooses 1 or 2 best writing to correct.

Ss may copy the good writing.
