UNIT 18: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Lesson 3 - Part: 4-6

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- Read and understand a text about someone’s action in progress.

- Tell their classmates what someone’s doing.

1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: review - Sentence patterns: review

2. Skill: Improve Ps’ reading, writing and speaking skills.

3. Attitude: Teach Ps to love their family and friends II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher: software Tieng Anh 3, TV/projector, subordinate board 2. Student: students' book, coloured pencils/crayons, a paper

III. METHODS: P.T.L (Pre task-Task cycle-Language analysis); P.W.P IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization (1’):

- Greet Ps.

- Check Ps’ attendance.

2. Warm up (5’):

- Ask two Ps to say the sound, the words and the sentences in lesson 3-period 1.

- Have two groups to say the chant What are you doing?

3. New lesson (26’):

- Get Ps to open their books on page 57.

- Tell Ps that they are going to read the text and fill the gaps with the appropriate words.

- Give Ps a few seconds to read the text in silence.

- Get Ps to check their answers in pairs.

- Ask Ps to give their answer to the class.

Activity 2 (8 ’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to write the answer.

- Give them a few seconds for Ps to read the text again.

- Call a people to give the answer for the first question.

- Give Ps time to do the task. Monitor the activity.

- Call on 2 pupils to do the task on the board.

- Have Ps swap and check their answer.

- Call a few Ps to read aloud their answers.

*Follow up: Get Ps to write the questions (workbook- part E2, unit 18)

Activity 3 ( 8’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to look at the pictures and tell what the children are doing.

- Then Ps will give a presentation of their work to the class.

- Check understanding.

- Give Ps time to do the project.

- Go around to offer help.

- Call some Ps to give a presentation.

- Have Ps draw one of the pictures and ask and answer questions about their picture.

- E.g:

- P1: This is my friend. Her name is Lan. She is singing. What is your friend doing?

5. Let’s write

2. His father is watching TV.

3. His mother is playing the piano.

4. His brother is listening to music.

5. He is singing in his room.

6. Project: Tell your classmate what they are doing.

4. Consolidation (3’):

- Have the rest of the class stick their painting on the wall and choose the five best.

- Have Ps sing the song I love my parents to end the class.

UNIT 19: THEY’RE IN THE PARK Lesson 1- Part 1-3

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- Use the words and phrases related to the topic outdoor activities.

- Ask and answer questions about outdoor activities.

1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: cycle, skate, skip, park, fly kites

- Sentences: What are they doing? – They’re skating 2. Skill: Improve P’s listening and speaking skills.

3. Attitude: Teach Ps to love taking in outdoor activities.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher: computer, TV/projector, picture cards, speaker, word cards.

III. METHODS: I.C.F, P.P.P, pair/group-work IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization (1’):

- Greet Ps.

- Check Ps’ attendance.

- Get Ps to play the game “charade”, using the vocabulary learnt (draw, sing, read, dance, listen to music, watch TV, play the piano)

3. New lesson (26’):

- Ask Ps to open the book on page 58.

- Tell Ps that they are going to listen to someone asking and answering bout outdoor activities.

- Give a few seconds for Ps to look at the pictures and check comprehensions.

- Have Ps repeat each word a few times.

- Use the first picture as an example.

- Put the question and the answer on the board and get Ps to repeat.

- Do choral and individual repetition, using pictures in the book.

- Get Ps to work in pairs.

- Check as a class.

- Language note: draw Ps’ attention to the -ing form of different verbs.

*Extension: get Ps to play the game Lucky number, using the pictures of indoor and outdoor activities.

Activity 3 (6 ’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to practise more with their friends.

- Get Ps to look at the picture and identify the activities.

- Give feedback and elicit words to fill the bubbles.

- Put the sentence on the board. Have Ps repeat.

- Have a pair act out the dialogue as an example.

- Get Ps to work in pairs.

*Extension: Get Ps to play the guessing game, to ask and answer what their friends are doing.

- Correct the spelling and grammatical errors, if necessary.

- Get Ps to practise asking and answering in pairs.

- Extension: Ps play the Chinese Whisper game, using the vocabulary and structure of the lesson.

- Check understanding.

- Get Ps to work in pairs. Go around to help.

- Call a few pairs to act out the dialogue.

- Ask others to make the comments.

- Ask Ps to watch the weather forecast and talk about the weather in some places in Viet Nam.
