UNIT 6: THE ENVIRONMENT

1. Adjectives and adverbs ( tính từ và trạng từ) + Tính từ bổ nghĩa cho danh từ và đại từ.

Ex : He is a good teacher.

She is tall

+ Trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ và các từ khác trong câu Ex : My teacher teaches well

I couldn’t come simply because I was ill.

It is a very interesting book.

2. Adverbs clauses of reason ( Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ lí do/nguyên nhân)  Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ nguyên nhân bắt đầu bằng as, because hoặc since As / Because Since he has no money, he can’t buy that house.

Notes: Nếu as, because hoặc since ở đầu câu thì giữa 2 mệnh đề có dấu phẩy (,)và nếu as, because hoặc since đứng giữa 2 mệnh đề thì không có dấu phẩy .

 He can’t buy that house as/ because / since he has no money.

3. Adjective + that clause

+ I am afraid that I will not come tomorrow.

+ We’re pleased that you passed your exam.

Conditional sentences: type 1

(Điều kiện có thể xảy ra hiện tại hoặc tương lai.)

Ex :

+ If Lan works hard, she will pass the exam.

+ If you can’t do it, I’ll help you.

=> I’ll help you if you can’t do it.

UNIT 7 : SAVING ENERGY

1. Connectives : (and, but, because, or, so, therefore, however) Ex : + I am a student and he is a student , too.

+ I am tall, but he isn’t.

+ Nam failed in his exam because he didn’t study hard.

+ Would you like tea or coffee ?

+ Ba was very tired, so he went to bed early.

+ I passed the test. Therefore, my dad took me to the concert.

+ Lan is very tired. However, she must finish her work.

2) Phrasal verbs:

turn off (tắt), turn on(mở), look for (tìm kiếm), look after ( chăm sóc), go on (tiếp tục),look up (tra từ điển), give out, give up, wear over, …….

- He forgot turn off the lights when he went to bed.

- Turn on the light! It’s very dark here.

- What are you looking for?

- The doctor often looks after the patients in the hospital.

- If you go on doing that, you’ll be punished.

3) Making suggestions:

SUGGEST + V-ING - I suggest speaking English in class.

SUGGEST (THAT) + S + SHOULD………..

- I suggest (that) he should go to see the doctor.

* Let’s +V….

- Why don’t we +V……..?

- What about + V-ing….?

- How about + V-ing….?

- Shall we + V……

- I think you should + V…..

- Won’t you + V……….

People are fascinated by robots. Some of them look like mechanical dolls to play with. Most of them look like other machines of today’s high technology.

Today’s robots are simple – minded compared with the ones of the future.

Researchers are now working on the sixth generation. These new robots will be able to do complex jobs. They will be able to take information from the environment. They will be able to see, using television cameras for eyes. They can touch and hear. Some computers can already understand a limited vocabulary. Researchers are trying to

develop ones that can understand human speech. They can understand voice commands and then respond.
