MODAL VERBS WITH "IF” (ĐỘNG TỪ TÌNH THÁI DÙNG VỚI "IF”)

 Động từ tình thái (modals) must, can, could, may, might, ought to, have to, should,...có thể được dùng trong câu điều kiện if để diễn đạt một điều gì đó chắc chắn hoặc có khả năng xảy ra trong hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

Ex:

-If you haven't got a television, you can't watch it. (Nếu bạn không có tivi, thì bạn không thể xem truyền hình được)

-If Tom jogs regularly, he might lose weight (Nếu Tom chạy bộ thường xuyên, anh ấy có thể sẽ giảm cân.)

-She may accept your offer if you ask her. (Cô ấy có thể chấp nhận nếu bạn hỏi cô ấy.) Introduction:

-Say how you come to know about the Institution (advertisement on newspaper/watch on TV) -Express your interest (want to know more information)

Hãy nói làm cách nào bạn biết về tổ chức (quảng cáo trên báo/ xem trên tivi); biểu thị sự quan tâm của bạn (muốn biết nhiều thông tin hơn).

Request (Yêu cầu)

-State how good your English is; exactly what kind of information you want.

Nói tiếng Anh của bạn như thế nào; loại thông tin gì bạn muốn biết.

Further information (Thông tin thêm)

-Say you are ready to supply more information about your English/study (record of study) if necessary.

Nói rằng bạn sẵn sàng cung cấp thêm thông tin về tiếng Anh/ học vấn (học bạ) của bạn nếu cần thiết.

-End with a polite closing Kết thúc với lời kết lịch sự.

if + present tense, modal + verb

 Động từ tình thái cũng có thể được dùng với if để khuyên ai đó nên hành động như thế nào nếu muốn làm một điều gì đó.

Ex:

-If you want to drive a car, you must have a driving license. (Nếu hạn muốn lái xe, bạn phải có bằng lái xe.)

-If you want to get good grades, you must study hard. (Nếu muốn đạt điếm cao thì bạn phài học chăm.)

-If Henry is going to a job interview, he should wear a tie. (Nếu Henry đi phỏng vấn xin việc thì anh ấy nên thắt cravat.)

 Questions in Reported Speech

1/ Yes-No Question

- động từ tường thuật asked, wanted to know, wondered -viết lại mệnh đề giới thiệu

-thêm “If” hoặc “Whether” sau mệnh đề giới thiệu - đổi sang câu khẳng định

-tường thuật (đổi ngôi, đổi thì, đổi trạng từ) Ex: He asked Susan “ Can you speak Chinese?”

He asked Susan if she could speak Chinese.

2/ Wh-question

- động từ tường thuật asked, wanted to know, wondered -viết lại từ để hỏi

- đổi sang câu khẳng định

-tường thuật (đổi ngôi, thì, trạng t ừ)

Ex: He asked his bother “ What time does the film begin tonight?”

He asked his brother what time the film began that night.

Example:
