UNIT 6: THE YOUNG PIONEERS CLUB

I. Aims of unit:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about Nga’s details to complete an application form

- Students will be able to ask for favor, offer assistance and practice responding;

- Students will be able to understand the text and do Reading Comprehension questions well - Students will be able to write an informal letter well

- Students will be able to understand more about present tense with future meaning II. Teaching aids: Students’ & teacher’s books, pictures, handouts…

- Pictures, tape, projector, speaker - Word cues, textbook, workbook - Poster, words given, chalk III. Methods:

- Pairs /groups work, Q & A, Individual Work.

- Ask and answer, make sentences use the word given.

Lesson 1: Getting started &Listen and read

A. Aims of the lesson:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand the dialogue and practice in gerunds used after some verbs: love, live, hate, enjoy.

*. Language contents:

a) Vocabulary: (n) young pioneer, the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer and Youth Organization (Y&Y), blind people, handicapped children, application form, hobby, sex(v) participate in, care for, fill out, draw, act(To) enroll, (to) get an application form.

b) Grammar; - The present simple with future meaning.

- Gerunds.

- Modals: may, can, could.

2. Skills:

- Practice read the text to understand about 02 organizations in Viet Nam.

- Discuss with your partners about activities of Young Pioneers and Youth Organization.

- Improve the listening skill, reading skill and guessing picture.

*. Giáo dục kĩ năng sống:

- Hợp tác cùng bạn bè để thảo luận về 02 tổ chức của Đội Thiếu niên và Đoàn TN ở Việt Nam với những công việc của các tổ chức này đã hoạt động.

- Biết tư duy, phê phán và phân tích hiệu quả của các công việc mà 02 tổ chức này đã làm theo những tình huống, sự việc đã nêu ra ở phần Getting.

- Xác định bản chất vấn đề, công việc của tổ chức Đoàn và Đội tổ chức cho các lớp thanh thiếu niên, nhi đồng cùng thực hiện có hiệu quả với xã hội.

3. Attitude:

- Know the work of member in Young Pioneers and the actions of Young Organization in Viet Nam.

- Active take part in the social activities, the activities of class and school.

- Kim game, Slap the board, explain the picture, make sentences with structure in lesson.

Young Pioneers and Youth Organization (Ss can speak in Vietnamese)

 What can we do when we enroll this organization? Are these activities useful for you and the general public?

- Hang the pictures on the board

- T asks Ss to work in groups to match the phrases with the right pictures - Ss work in groups to match

Method Content

1. Getting started: (08’)

T: asks Ss to identify the activities that the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer and Youth Organization participate in.

- T explain some words:

*young pioneer (n): (Mime)

You’re young pioneers.

*the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer and Youth Organization (n) = Y&Y

-blind (a) (Mime)

(n) = blind people

2. Presentation : (12’)

Getting started:

- collecting the garbage- caring for animals - helping blind people - taking park in sports - planting tree- helping handicapped children - cleaning up the streets- helping elderly people

The Y & Y programs:

- helping blind people - helping elderly people

- helping handicapped children - taking park in sports

- collecting the garbage - planting trees

- cleaning up the streets Listen and read:

- Ss read after the teacher (chorus, individually), give the meaning.

*Lead in : The Y&Y is very helpful for students and all students should take parting in the Y&Y activities. Nga is a student in grade eight. She wants to enroll in the activities for the summer.

Today she meets the secretary to enroll for these activities.

- T: Hang a extra- board " guiding questions"

- Ask Ss to read the questions and prepare to listen to the dialogue to find out the answers.

3. Practice : (15’)

-T: Now, listen to the conversation between Nga and the secretary.

- T plays tape twice.

- Ss look at their book and listen - Asks Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs.

- Checks some pairs.

- Ask Ss to answer the guiding

(P. 55-56) A. Aims of the lesson:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to ask for favors and respond to favors. Offer and respond to assistance.

*. Language focus:

a. Vocabulary: (n) favor, arm, corner, math problem, tire (v) hurt, break

b. Grammar: * Modal verbs: Can, Could, May 2. Skills:

- Practice work in pairs to ask and answer with modal verbs; can, could, may.

- Tích cực thực hành luyện tập đặt câu nhiều câu đề nghị tất nhiên phải có câu trả lời đáp lại.

*. Kĩ năng sống:

- Với chủ đề về Đoàn TN và Đội TN qua bài học h/s sẽ biết lựa chọn cho chính bản thân mình những hoạt động phù hợp với lứa tuổi.

- Hợp tác cùng các anh chị Đoàn TN để tạo nên những phong trào cao độ có hứng thú lôi cuốn đội viên làm theo.

4. PRODUCTION: ( 10’)

- Set the scene then ask Ss to make a dialogue between Mrs. Ngoc and Hoa.

- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs - Ask Ss to make similar dialogues about some of the following situations - Ask Ss to make another dialogue and then practice in pairs.

You: Of course. How can I help you?

Your neighbor: Can you help me to tidy the yard? I've broken my leg.

You: Certainly. I'll help you.

Your neighbor: Thank you very much. That's very kind of you.

B. Your friends needs help fixing her bicycle because she has a flat tire.

- Practice to improve the listen skill through the exercises fill in the blanks.

*. Kĩ năng sống:

- Qua bài học giáo dục cho h/s hiểu biết về ý nghĩa của những công việc mà Đoàn TN và Đội TNTP kết hợp cùng nhau giúp đỡ cho người khác.

- Lắng nghe tích cực những lời nhận xét của người khác để có thể đưa ra quyết định về những mục tiêu hoạt động của bản thân.
