Lesson 3 (6,7) I. AIMS.

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read and say the three Aa words correctly . Recognize and say a new Aa word correctly.

2. Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking.

3. Attitude: Ss like the subject.

1.Organization.

2. Warm up: (5')

Ask the students to open their notebooks. In two minutes, the students write as many Nn's as they can. The winner is the student who has written the most 3. New lesson.

Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/

crayons.

Name some colours and ask the students to repeat.

Use the structure: “I like…” and ask the students hold up the colour pencils/ crayons they like.

Give the students 2 minutes to colour in the apples that have Aa in them. Go around the classroom

Activity: Thumbs Up or Down (5’)

Number the apples in exercise 6 from one to six.

Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the apple has Aa in it and put their thumbs down if the apple does not have Aa in it.

e.g. Teacher: (point to the apple number one in the book)

Apple number one. Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs up)

Teacher: Good! And apple number two? Up or Down?

Activity 7. Listen. Point and repeat (Track 07) (7’)

Show the students the acrobat phonics card. Point to it and say: // - acrobat. Ask them to repeat.

Mime trying to keep balance and say: // - acrobat.

Encourage the students to do the same

Point to the pictures, the students do the corresponding actions and say the words.

Have students colour the pictures of the words that start with the a sound.

Activity: Hunt The Cards Game(10’)

Divide the class into two teams 1 and 2.

Hide the phonics cards around the classroom.

Write the following for each team:

1: ant, acrobat 2: apple, alligator

The students in each team have to ‘hunt’ for the phonics cards of their team.

Play the song (Track 06) from lesson 2

The first team to find all its words before the end of the song is the winner.

7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the a sound. Say a words.

Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity: How to write letter A(5’) Writing& Speaking

Demonstrate how to write thebig A stroke by stroke

Draw an example of letter A using dashed lines

Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter A

Have some students practice tracing letter A on the board

Have students trace letter A in the books

Students say // after each finished letter

Go around to give help if necessary

Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter a

Writing & Reading

Copy the box from the book to the board

Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Aa into the box

Demonstrate the writing

Put Phonics cards of an ant and a bee

Draw 2 small square boxes underneath them on the board

Ask the students which one goes with letter Aa and then tick the correct box

Tell the students that they are going to write the letter Aa in the boxes in their book and tick the correct picture that correspondsto the letter.

Answer keys: ant, acrobat

Activity 3. Trace and Write a (Page 3 – Activity Book) ) (9’)

Activity 1: Revision of words starting with letter Aa– Games Stand & Sit (4’)

Speaking& Listening

Show up the 3 phonics cards one by one. For example, show the card with ant, but incorrectly say alligator or apple, the students should stand; if the words are correctly said, they should stay sitting.

Do the same procedure for the other two cards.

Give feedback Activity 2: (5’) Writing

Put the Phonics card (ant) on the board.

Copy the dashed line from question 1 in the book to the board

Demonstrate tracing the line to connect the ant and the word __nt

Ask the students for the missing letter and write it in the gap

Have the students do the same procedure in their

Activity 4. Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the a sound (page 3 – Activity book) (5’)

Listening & Writing

Show and point to each picture on page 3 and say the sound and then the word. Students listen and nod or shake their head. If they nod, trace a circle with your finger around the picture.

For example: a…, a…. ,a…. ,a ……….acrobat.

Have the students circle the pictures of the words starting with the a sound

Go around providing any necessary help.
