Read and say the three Dd words correctly Recognize and say an extra Dd word correctly.

2. Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing 3. Attitude: Ss like the subject.

: *Recognize  and read  letter Dd II. TEACHING AIDS:

1.Teacher’s: CD, Phonics cards, books, workbooks.

2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

Warm up (5') - Greet students

- Review the previous lesson by playing the “Guessing game”

- Divide the class into 2 teams, A and B - Ask student come to the board

- Whisper one of the target vocabulary words (dog, drum, dragon,…) to him/her

Without speaking, the student draws a picture of the word on the boardThe first team to guess the word wins a point

- The team with the most points wins the game Give feedback

Activity 6. Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the same sound (3’) Use the phonics card to elicit the pictures starting the / æ /, /b/, and /d/ sounds Ask students to circle the pictures of the words that begin with the same sound Go around for helping

* Thumbs Up or Down (5’)

Ask the students to put their thumbs up if the pictures of words that begin with the corresponding sounds

e.g. Teacher: (point to the picture of dragon in the book) It starts with /d/ sound. Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs up)

Teacher: Good! (pointing the picture dog) It starts with /k/ sound? Up or Down?

 Activity 7. Listen. Point and repeat. Colour the pictures of thw words that start with d sound.

Say d words (Track 25) (12’) 7.1 Listen, point and repeat (5’)

Show the students the doll phonics card. Point to it and say: /d/ - doll. Ask them to repeat Mime holding a doll and say /d/, doll

Encourage the students to do the same Say the letter and ask students do the action Play the CD

7.2 Colour the pictures of the words that start with the d sound. Say the d words (7’) Point to pictures and have students name them

Name some colours and ask the students to repeat

Ask the students to colour the pictures which have Dd in them

Give the students 4 minutes to colour in the ‘drum’ and ‘dog’. Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

* Craftwork (5’)

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word and then draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks Tell them to colour the letter and the picture

The three first students who finish will show their picture to the class Activity 6. Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the same sound

2. Warm up: (5’) - Greet the students

Review the previous lessons playing the‘Odd – one – out game’

Put a set of phonics cards on the board plus an ‘odd’ one from another set Point to each card in turn and say the word for the class to repeat in chorus Take away the odd card from the board

Repeat with different cards. This time ask the student to identify the odd-one-out for the class Repeat as many times as necessary

Write on the board the big D and small d

Point to the letter D and say out loud “This is the letter D/di:/. The letter D says /d/”

Point to the letter d and say out loud “This is the letter d /di:/. The letter dsays /d/”

Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary Activity: How to write letter D(3’)

Writing& Speaking

Demonstrate how to write thebig Dstroke by stroke Draw an example of letter D using dashed lines

Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter D Have some students practice tracing letter D on the board Have students trace letter D in the books

Students say /d/ after each finished letter Go around to give help if necessary

Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter d

Activity 2:Trace and match (page 8 – Activity Book)(5’) Writing & Reading

Copy the 2 boxes from the book to the board and put the phonics card of bear up between them Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd into the box

Demonstrate the writing

Draw linesto the correct pictures that correspond to each letter Go around the classroom and providing any necessary help

Activity 3:What are they? Join the dots and colour. Then match (Page 9 – Activity Book) ) (10’) Revision of words starting with letter Dd–‘Point to the correct card’ game(3’)

Speaking& Listening

Display some phonics card on the board, one of which contains the /d/ sound Say /d/ sound and have the students point to the card that contains the sound Ask students to say the words that start with /d/ sound

Join the dots and coulour. Then match(7’) Have students name pictures

Ask the student to join the dots to complete the pictures and colour them Then ask students to match the pictures to the correct sentences below Go around and give help as needed

Activity 4:Tick (ü) the pictures of the words that start with the d sound  (page 9 – Activity book) (5’)

Ask students to tick the items that start with the d sound Go around providing any necessary help

Portfolios (page 41 – Activity Book (5’) Tracing and coloring letter Dd

Copy the letter Dd from the book (page 41) to the board Demonstrate tracing the letter and then coloring it Have the students trace the letter in their book.
