UNIT 1: A visit from a pen pal

LESSON 5: WRITE

A. Aims of the lesson:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to learn about tourist topic through the way writing a letter to a friend for talking a trip to one of the cities in VN.

2. Language contents:

- The simple past tense.

- The present perfect tense.

3. Attitude:

- Ss use the simple structures to describle about their trip to somewhere they like. The form of the letter is simple, too.

*. Giáo dục kĩ năng sống:

- Qua bài học giáo dục cho h/s biết xác định giá trị của tình bạn bè và từ đó hình thành nền tảng cơ bản trong giao tiếp với bạn bè.

- Biết lắng nghe, cảm thông và chia sẻ với bạn bè về tình cảm, chia sẻ và hỗ trợ nhau trong học tập cùng nhau tiến bộ.

- Biết giữ gìn và phát huy những giá trị văn hóa của đất nước và có thể giới thiệu với bạn bè nước ngoài về quê hương đất nước Việt Nam.

III. New lesson:

- Call on some representatives to report in front of class

=> Lead in the new lesson . 1. Pre Writing : ( 10 minutes )

- Now answer these questions about your trip : 1. When did you arrive in ……….?

2. Who met you at the bus –stop / train station ? 3. Which places did you visit ?

4. Who did you meet during the visit ? 5. What kinds of food did you eat ? 6. What did you buy ?

7. How do you feel about the visit ? Are you happy or tired ?

- Call on some Ss to practice answering these questions in front of class.

- Remark and correct mistakes if any .

- Have Ss write the paragraph , using the answers as prompts .

2. While Writing : ( 15 minutes )

- Go around class and provide help with some one if necessary .

- Call on some Ss to read their writings and correct common mistakes in front of class.

- Ask them to compare with their friends,writings . - Give suggested letter :

- Play game

- Introduce the aims of the lesson to Ss “ You are going to write a paragraph about a trip to a city in Viet Nam “

- Report the results in front of class.

- Listen and copy the title in their notebooks .

- Work in pairs to answer the question.

- Practice answering the questions in front of class.

- Write the letter independently .

- Exchange their writings and correct mistakes.

- Read loudly .

Dear Lan ,

I arrived at Hue Railway station at 7 am on Sunday . Uncle Hung took me home by motorbike .

I have visited the Imperial city . I was amazed by magnificient monuments there . I also went to Dong Ba Market , the biggest market in Hue . This is the place where I bought a lot of things . Yesterday Uncle Hung and I went to eat beef noodles and Com Hen . I enjoyed it very much .

I will leave Hue on Saturday . I am so happy . People in Hue are very nice and friendly . I miss them very much . The train is scheduled to come to Ha Noi at 6 pm . Please collect me at the station .

- Review the simple past and practice further in Wish – clause (type 1) 2. Skills:

- Writing and speaking.

- Rèn luyện kĩ năng tư duy, sáng tạo để có thể đưa ra những đáp án khác nhau, những điều ước muốn mà nội dung câu ước nguyện trong bài học đề ra.

- Ask Ss to work individually to match two columns.

2. Presentation. (14’).

* Set the scene:

- Let’s make the conversation the same conversation between Tan and Phong. They are talking about what Ba did on the weekend.

* Model sentences:

- Elicit the model sentences from Ss.

E.g. Lan went to school by bike yesterday.

- Concept check.

Form: + S + Verb (past simple) + O...

- S + didn’t + verb (infinitive) + O...

? (Wh) + did + S + verb (infinitive)...?

Use: Use in the past tenses.

Note: Verb (regular + ED)

Verb (irregular change into other form).

- Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer questions about what Ba, Lan, Nam and Hoa did on the weekend.

E.g. Nga

S1: What did Nga do on the weekend?

S2: She went to see a concert performed by Hanoi singers.

S1: When did she go?

S2: She went to see it on Saturday afternoon at 8 pm.

- Tell Ss that the activities happened in definite time in the past.
