Week 05 Period 17 Date of planning: 05/10/2018

UNIT 3: WHERE DID YOU GO ON HOLIDAY?

Lesson 3: (1, 2, 3) I. AIMS:

1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, Ps will be able to pronounce three - syllable word with the stress on the first syllable: motobike, underground, holiday, family.

2. Skills: speaking, listening and reading.

II. LANGUAGE FOCUS:

- Sentence patterns: revision - Vocabulary: revision III. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

IV. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm up: (5’)

Spend a few minutes inviting some Ss to the front of the class to sing the song “How did you get there?”Have the rest class listen and clap their hands.

Some Ss sing the song The rest class listen and clap the hand.

II. New lesson: (30’) 1. Listen and repeat. (8’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to practise saying three syllable word with the stress on the first syllable.

Explain that in a word with more than one syllable, one of the syllables is usually said with more emphasis then the rest.

- Play the recording and ask Ps to repeat a few time. Then put the words on the board, play the recording and ask Ps to repeat a few more times.

After that, write the sentences on the board.

- Play the recording a few more times and let Ps say the sentences, paying attention to the target sounds.

- Do choral and individual repetition of the sounds, words and sentences until Ps feel confident.

- Get some Ps to perform in front of the class.

Check as a class and correct the pronunciation, if necessary.

2. Listen and circle: (8’) a. Pre-listening:

- Explanes the title.

- There are 4 sentences in this lesson. We are going to listen and circle a or b to complete the sentences you hear.

Get Ss to predict some of the things they think they will hear.

b. While - listening.

- Play the recoding (twice). Have Ss listen and circle the correct sentenes.

- Play the recording sentence by sentence for Ss to check their answers.

- Give them time to write the words in the gaps independently .

- Get Ps to swap their answers before you check as a class. Monitor the activity and offer help if necessary.

- Complete these sentences.

- Ask Ps to look at the Nam’s letter to Tony using the words in the box to complete.

- Call some student s to read the gapped sentences and guess the words to fill the gap.Remind them to focus on the context to get the information needed.

b. While-reading.

- Ask Ss to read and complete the sentences

- Get ps to compare with the partner. Ss give their answers.

- Give feedback.

c. Post reading.

- Ask Ps to work in pair to read the letter again.

5. Read and write: (9’)

- Tell the class that they are going t read Linda’s letter to Mai and write answers to the questions.

Explain the meanings of the new words(take a train, view, wonderful)

- Tell them to read the question first, then read the text and focus on the information needed to answer the questions. If necessary, get pupils to work in pairs or group.

- Give pupil time to do the task independently. Go aroud and offer help if necessary.

- Get them to compare their answers in pairs before giving the answers to the class.

- Give explanations if necessary.

6. Project: (7’)

- Tell the class they are going to interview two classmates about their past holiday.

- Ask them to work in groups to discuss and brainstorm what questions they should ask to get the information.

-Give them the time to do the interviews in class and complete the table.

- Invite some pupils to the front of the class to repeat their interviews.

7. Colour the stars: (5’)

- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension.

- Give them time to colour the stars and invite a few Ps to read the statements aloud.

- Give further support to Ps who find it difficult to achieve certain objectives.

- Have pupils play Slap the board , using pictures of these words: motobike, bike, train, bus taxi, underground. When the game is over, get the Ss to point at each picture to ask and answer questions about means of transport. At the end of the game, introduce the unit.

- Have the class look at the pictures. Introduce the story by pointing at each character and elicit their answers to the questions: Who are the pupils/

Where are they/What are they talking about?

- Play the recording all the way through for the class to listen and follow in their books. Play it again for them to repeat line by line. Finally, point to each picture for them to say the words in

each bubble.

- Check their understanding of the story.

- Invite one or two pairs to speak to check their pronunciation.

3. Let’s talk: (7’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about whether someone did something.

- Get Ps to work in pairs. Remind them to use the questions and asnwers in their books.

- Set a time limit for the class to practise. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary.

- Invite a few Ps to repeat their interviews to the class. Then give feedback.

- Play the recording all the way through for Ps to listen and follow in their books. Play it again for them to to repeat line by line.

- When the class are familiar with the melody, ask them to sing along with the music before having them practise singing and doing actions in groups - Invite a group to sing the song and do actions.
