UNIT 4: WHEN'S YOUR BIRTHDAY?

Lesson 1, 2, 3 (3-4-5) A. Objectives.

1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, Students will be able to:

- Ask and answer questions about date

- Listen to and understand the text then write and sing a song about dates Pronounce correctly the stress of the two syllable nouns

- Read the paragraph and answer the questions.

- Write about their birthday party, using the guiding questions.

- Work in group to discuss a birthday present for a classmate.

- Colour the stars showing their English competences.

2. Skills:

- Develop Ss’ writing and listening skills 3. Core competencies & Personal qualities - Responsibility towards yourself

- Love to study English

- Know some dates of the week - Practise with partner

II. Teaching aids:

T: Pictures, books, recording, computer, speakers, softbook and projector.

SS: Ss’ book, notebook.

+ Put pupils into 2 groups. One is the X and the other one is the O

+ They should take turns completing one language item. They score an X (or O) for each sentence that is grammatically correct.

+ The pupil who is the first to put three respective Xs (or Os) in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row wins the game.

- Correct their pronunciation.

- Ask students to look at the pictures and then identify the content of pictures in their book.

Activity 2. Listen and number(5’) + Pre- listening

Tell Ps that they are going to listen and number the pictures. Give a few seconds for Ps to look at the pictures. Check

comprehension of the date in the pictures.

+ While- listening

Play the recording three times for Ps to listen, do the task and check their answers.

Get Ps to swap and check their answers before checking as class.

Activity 1: Read and tick(5’) +Pre- reading

-Tell the class that they are going to read the text and tick to answer the questions.

-Get them to look through the text and explain the new words: present, soon.

+While- reading

-Set a time limit for pupils to do the task independently. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary.

-Have them compare their answers before checking.

+ Post- reading

-Ask some ss to read aloud the text.

*Activity 2: Write an invitation card (5’) +Pre- writing

- Tell the class that they are going to complete the invitation card.

- Give them time to read the words given and find the information which should be

written.

+While- writing

- Set a time limit for them to do the task independently. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary.

- Remind them to write the first letter of each sentence and the name in capital letters, and put commas and full stops at the aprociate places.

+Post- writing

- Get them to swap and read their writing in pairs before inviting two or three pupils to read their answers aloud.

*Activity 3. Project(5’)

- Tell the class that they are going to make a birthday card about themselves.

- They should work individual to make their card using color papers, crayons then work in pairs to swap their cards. Then tell the teacher about their friend.

- Set a time limit for them to do the task.

- Call on some ss to show their work before class

4. Application (4’)

* Picture cues.

- Have pupils look at pictures. Run through it - Identify :

- Ask them to practise asking and answering about what someone can do.

Eg: What can you do?

+ Intonation: how about my voice at the end of the sentence?

+ Form: What phrase can be replaced by another phrase?

+ Meaning: What is the meaning of the sentences?

+ Use: To ask and answer about what someone can / can not do.
