 Introduction of letter T, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Tt

- Use a card with letter Tt (or write on board the letter Tt) to introduce to the students the new lesson.

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter T /ti:/. The letter T says /t/.”- Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation (letter T /ti:/ and its sound /t/)

- Use the phonics cards with tree, tent, and tiger, read the words out loud and have students repeat.

- Use gestures to help students to understand the meanings of the three words.

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order).

- Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any) - Ask the students to colour in the letters.

* Disabilities Ss: Colour with teacher's help.

Activity: Which One Is Missing? (4’)

- Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on the board.

- Give the students a minute to look at the cards.

- Have students close their eyes and then you take away one cards.

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the missing cards.

Activity 2. Listen and point. Colour. (Track 41) (9’) - Point to the tree and say: A tree!

- Have students listen and repeat.

- Have students look at the book and listen to the words: a tree, a tent, a tiger - Have students listen and repeat the words for several times.

- Have the students to point to the corresponding item in the picture.

- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on the side.

- Choose the correct one for each corresponding item in the picture.

- Ask the students to colour the pictures.

- Go around the classroom asking students to name the items they are colouring.

Production (4’) Activity: Hot Cards

- Have the students sit down.

- Hand out the phonics card from the previous unit.

- While the song is playing, the students pass the phonics card around.

- Put a phonics card on each chair.

- Read one of the three words out loud (e.g. tree), students must try to be the first to sit on the chair with the corresponding phonics card.

- The student who sits on the chair first will get 1 point for his/her team.

- Give feedback

Activity 5. Song (Track 44) (5’) 

- Put the tree, tent and tiger phonics cards up on the board.

- Point to the tent, the tree and say: “The tent is under the tree”. The students repeat.

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song.

- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.

- Play the CD again. The students sing and do corresponding actions.

Activity: Form a Line Game (5’)

- Put up the phonics cards on the board.

- Write the respective words on separate pieces of paper.

- Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction.

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

Activity 3. Let’s chant(10’)

Tell Ss that they are going to say the “What colour is it?” chant.

Play the recording all through Ss listen and  follow in their books.

Play the recording again Ss listen and  read line by line.

Divide the class into2 groups .G1: read the questions, G2: read the answers.

Then exchange.

When they are familiar with the rhythm, show them how to say the chant and do the actions.

Get groups  of Ss to sit face to face and practice chanting and doing the actions. Get around and offer help, if necessary..

Get Ss to identify the characters in the pictures and what they are saying.

- Tell Ss that they are going to read and get information to fill the gap.

- Ss read silently and complete the dialogues.

- Ss trade their answers within pairs for correction

- Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments.

- Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the reading text.

- Have the whole class read each line of the dialogues chorally to reinforce their pronunciation.

* Set the scene:       

- T uses the picture of the dialogue on page 64(Student book 1) to lead Ss in the conversation - Ask students to look at the 4 pictures  in the book and check comprehension by eliciting the answers for these questions.

   T: Who are they?

    Ss: They are Mai and her mother.

    T: Where are they?

    Ss: They are at home.

   T: What are they talking about?

   Ss: what Mai do at break time.

- Play the recording all the way throught for Ss to listen and follow in their book.

- Play the recording again for Ss repeat the text several times.( line by line in the bubbles).

- Point to the picture for Ss to read the dialogue  again - Have Ss to find out the new structure.

Activity 2. Point and say.(15’) a. Prestenting new words.

Have pupils look at pictures on Page 52 Elicit the characters in the pictures and their names.
