UNIT 11 : Letter Kk

Lesson 1 I.Aims.

1/Knowledge.

By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

- Recognize and pronounce the letter Kk and its sound correctly - Understand, recognize and say the three Kk words

2. Skill: Listening, writing , speaking and reading.

3. Attitude.

- Educate Ss to be friendly with friends.

- Students love objects with the letter K II.Teaching aids:

T: teachers’ book, , CD, phonics cards ,paper including the lyrics of the chant Ss: Student’s book, colour. Activity book.

III. Teaching method: MAT, TPA.

2.Warm up ( 5’)

Have a student come to the front of the class

Have another student read any word from the previous lesson (jam, jelly, juice, jacket)

The student who is standing gestures corresponding with the words he/she hear from the friend.

* Activity 1 (Track 67): ( 10’)

- Introduction of letter Kk, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Use a card with letter Kk (or write on board the letter Kk) to introduce to the students

1. Listen, point and repeat.

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying:

“This is the letter K /ke/ The letter K says / k/.”

Repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation (letter K/ ke/ and its sound / k/)

- Ss: listen and repeat.

- Ss: work individually and pairs.

- Use the phonics cards with kite, kitten and koala, read the words out loud and have students repeat.

Use gestures (hand actions) to help students to understand the meanings of the three words.

Kite: imitate flying a kite Kitten: mime “ meowing”

Juice: imitate hugging a tree

Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order).

Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

Sit and Stand Game (5’)

- Show the 3 phonics cards one by one. For example, show the card with kite, but incorrectly say kitten or koala, the students will stand; if the words are correctly said, they will stay sitting.

- Ss: work in groups.

- Do the same procedure for the other two cards.

- Give feedback

Where the letter ( 5’)

- Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/

pages from some story books.

- Ask the students to work in pairs/ groups - Hand out the photocopies and ask students to search for and circle the letter Jj on the page(s).

- Ss: work in groups.

- In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the most Jj s is the winner.

- This game can help the students understand the link between the letter sounds and words in books.

* Activity 3 Production (5’)

- Show the letter Kk again , and ask ss to write the Kk in air with their fingers

- Ask ss to write down the words kite, kitten and koala in their notebooks

- Ss: look and write in the air - Ss: work individually and pairs.

- Corrects.

- Have students look at the book and listen to the expression: I like kite. Yum, I like kitten. Yum, I like koala. Yum, point to the object when they hear

- Have students listen and repeat the words for several times

- Ss: look at the picture listen and point.

- Ss: work individually and groups.

- Give feedback

- Ask student to colour the jam, jelly and juice, using colour they like

- Go around the classroom, ask students to name the item they are colouring

what is missing (5 mins)

- Put the 3 phonics cards on the board in this order: kite, kitten and koala.

- Give students a minute to look at them - Have students close their eyes and take

away one phonics card - Ss: remember the cards.

- Ss:listen and repeat - Ss:listen and point

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the phonics card which is missing - Ss: work individually

- Continue with the other phonic cards

* Acvtivity 2.(Track 68) (5’) Act it out

- Read the word and ask students to listen and do the gestures for 3 words kite, kitten and koala.

- Ss: look at the chant listen and repeat.

- Ss: work individually and pairs.

- Change role: teachers does the actions, students look and call out the words

- Ss: work in pairs.

* Activity 3 ( 5’)

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have students sing the chant with kite. Do the same with kitten and koala.

- The whole class sings the whole chant. Do the chant again using gestures for each word.

- Ss; listen and repaet.

- Ss: work in groups.

- Give feedback

Chant in group (Optional) ( 5’)

- Divide the class into 3 groups (kite, kitten and koala.

). Each group says the appropriate chant while the rest of the class claps.

- Ss: work in groups.

Ask each group to mime the corresponding action or show the corresponding phonics cards while they chant.

4.Consolidation (3’)

- T asks whole class to read the chant aloud.
