UNIT 11 : WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU ? LESSON 3 (1, 2, 3)

I. Objectives:

By the end of the lesson Ps can:

Pronounce two-and four-syllable words with the stress on the first syllsble: a toothache ,a stomach ache , a store throat , an earache.

II. Language focus:

- Sentence patterns:

- Vocabulary: a toothache ,a stomach ache , a store throat , an earache.

III. Resources:

1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

3. Class organization:

I. Warm up: (5’)

- Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by getting two groups of Ps to play Questions and answers or having the class do a dictation, using the words learnt in the previous lesson.

Play Questions and answers.

II. New lesson: (30’) 1. Listen and repeat. (8’)

- Put the words What is the matter with you ?

–. Play the recording for Ps to listen. Then play the recording again for them to repeat the sentences.

- Do choral and individual repetition of the words and sentences until they feel confident.

- Get some Ps to say the words and sentences.

Correct the pronunciation, if necessary.

2. Listen and circle a or b . Then ask and answer

- Tell the class that they are going to listen to recoding and underline to complete the sentences.

- Give Ps a few seconds to read the sentences in silence before playing the recording for them to do the task.

- Tell the class that they are going to say the chant

‘What is the matter with you ? Follow the procedure in Teaching the unit components in Introduction.

- Have Ps read the chant and check comprehension.

- Play the recording all the way through for Ps to do choral and individual repetition. Show them how to chant and do actions. Invite two groups of four to give a demonstration. One group chants the questions and the other chants the answers.

- Call two groups to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps their hands along to the rhythm.

Ps read the sentences in silence and do the task.

- Get the class that they are going to read the text about complete the table.

- Get them to read the text and find appropriate information to complete the table, what is the matter with you?

- Give them time to do the task independently. Go around and offer help, if necessary.

- Get Ps to swap their answers before checking as a class.

- Tell the class that they are going to interview their classmates

- Each Pupil selects three classmates to interview and takes notes.

- Draw three sports and talk about them.

- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension.

- Give them time to colour the stars and invite a few Ps to read the statements aloud.

- Give further support to Ps who find it difficult to achieve certain objectives.

UNIT 12 : DON’T RIDE YOUR BIKE TOO FAST ! LESSON 1 (1, 2, 3)

I. Objectives:

By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: use the words and phrases related to the topic School lessons; ask and answer questions about school lessons, ask and answer question about how often someone has a subject , say question and answer with the correct sentence stress.

II. Language focus:

- Have the class look at the pictures. Introduce the story by pointing at each character and elicit their answers to these questions : Who’s this ? Who is he / she talking with ? What are they talking about ?

- Play the recording all the way through for the class to listen and follow in their books. Play it again for them to repeat line by line. Finally, point to each picture for them to say the words in

each bubble.

2. Point and say:

- Tell Ss that they are going to practice asking and asnwering questions about lessons , using Don’t ……OK, ……..

- Get them to practice the answer before introducing the questions. Point to the timetable for the class to say I have….

- Tell Ps that they are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about lessons.

- Get Ps to work in groups of four to ask and answer.

- Set a time limit for the class to practise. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary.

- Invite a few pairs to act out their conversations. They can make up the number of lessons they have so that each pair will have difference answers. Then give feedback.

- Invite a group to sing the song and do actions in front of the class.
