UNIT 20: WHICH ONE IS MORE EXCITING, LIFE IN THE CITY OR LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE?

LESSON 1: (4, 5, 6) I. AIMS.

1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, Ps will be able to:

- use the words and phrases related to the topics Compare place

- Listen and write one word in each gap; read and complete sentences to compare cities.

2. Skills: speaking, listening and reading II. LANGUAGE FOCUS:

- Sentence patterns: revision - Vocabulary: revision III. TEACHING AIDS:

IV. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm up: (5’)

Spend a few minutes revising the story in activity 1 by inviting some pairs to act it out the story in front of the class.

Work in pairs.

II. New lesson: (30’)

4. Listen and circle a, b or c: (8’) a. Pre-listening:

- T looks at the books and sets the scence:

How many sentences are there?

How many blank are there?

- Tell Ps that they are going to listen and write one word in each gap. Tell them that the first blank are for names of places and the second ones for

adjectives.

- Ask them to read the sentences and guess the words to write in the gap.

b. While-listening:

Answer T’s questions Ss listen and answer the questions.

Listen and do the task. Work individual

Listen again to check.

- Work in pairs.

- Play the recording all the way through for Ps to listen. Play it again for them to do the task.

- Get Ss to swap and compare their answers before checking as a class. Play the recording again to confirm the answers.

- Give explanations for the answers which Ps find difficult

- tell the class that they are going to read and complete to compare cities.

- Give them a few seconds to read and do the task.

If necessary, get them to work in pairs or in groups.

Go around and offer help, if necessary.

- Get them to compare their answers in pairs before checking as a class. If there is enough time , have the class read the completed conversation aloud invite some pair to ask and answer the questions.

- Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by having the class sing Which is one….? in Lesson 1, Activity 6. Invite a group to do actions in front of the class when the class is singing.

II. New lesson: (30’)

1. Look, listen and repeat. (11’)

- Tell the class that they are going to read a story about Mai and Linda.

- Look at the pictures and ask them these

questions: what are their names?Where are they?

What are they doing?

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and follow in their books. Play it again for them to do choral repetition, pointing to the characters speaking.

- Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat.

- Practice with ps.

- Devide the class into 2 groups. Asks practice in pairs.

- Go round and check Ss can repeat and understand the dialogue.

2. Point and say: (13’)

a. Vocabulary: expensive, attractive.

Pass the secret!

- Tell the class that they are going to play Pass the secret! Follow the procedure in Game in Introduction.

- Divide Ps into group of six or seven. Ask them to line up in rows. Then whisper a sentence to the first Ps in each group. The first Ps whispers the sentence to the second one. The last Ps in the rows say a loud the sentence that he/ she heard. If he/ she says the sentence correctly, the group will score one point.

- Set the limit for the game. The group with the most point wins.

- To make the game more competitive, select some Ps to whisper the sentence to the first Ps. They should the sentences that they have learnt from Lesson 1 and 2

- Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by getting two groups to play Pass the secret! You may give a dictation for the class to do, using the sentences learnt in the previous lessons.

II. New lesson: (30’) 1. Listen and repeat. (8’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to practise saying the questions and answers, focusing on the intonation.

- Tell them to pay attention to the intonation of the sentences.

- Play the recording and ask Ps to repeat a few time.

Then put the sentences on the board, play the recording and ask Ps to repeat a few more times.

After that, write the sentences on the board.

- Play the recording a few more times and let Ps say the sentences , paying attention to the falling intonation.

- Do choral and individual repetition of the sounds, words and sentences until Ps feel confident.

- Get some Ps to perform in front of the class. Check as a class and correct the pronunciation, if necessary.

2. Listen and mark the sentences intonation. (7’) - Tell Ps that they are going to listen and mark the

- Invite some Ps to read aloud all the sentences.

- If time allows , ask the class to make sentences with the words.

3. Let’s chant: (15’)

- Tell ss that they are going to say the chant Which one is more………?

- Look at the picture and guess the content - Look and introduce the chant

- Let’s students read the chant and check their comprehension.

- show Ss how to chant and do actions.

- Ask Ps to clap the hands forward rythym.

- Play recording then Ss repeat.

- Have Ss to practise chanting and do actions in groups.

- Call some groups and some volunters to perform before the class. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm.
