UNIT 12 : SPORTS AND PASTIMES LESSON 1 : A 1-3

A. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about what people are doing now, using present progressive and sports vocabulary

Language contents :

1. Vocabulary

B. Preparation

Teacher: text books, posters, pictures, cassette . Students: Text books

C. Methods: Jumbled words,Dictation List,Presentation text,Picture Cue Drill, N. and Crosses.

I : ORGANIZATION (1 min)

II. WARM UP (5 mis) Jumbled words

Divide the class into 2 teams and name their teams

Ss in each team take turn to go to the boars and rearrange the letters in the correct order to make meaningful words.

The team that writes more correct words will win the game Praise the winner

Key:

Step 1 : Presentation : Activity1. Preteach

- T. uses pictures to elicit the words.

Sts : - listen.

- listen and repeat (chorally then individually).

- T. asks : What sports must be 2 people or more?

What sports can be one person?

- Sts copy the table.

- T. reads - Sts write the words in the right column.

- T. reads: play table tennis, skip, jog, swim, do aerobics, play badminton, play football, play tennis.

Activity 2. Presentation text : (A1. P124)

- T. sets the scene: How many pictures are there?

What are they doing? Listen to the tape.

- Sts listen and repeat.

- Sts practice saying the dialogue (open pairs then close pairs).

- T. elicits from the students to give the model sentences.

- T. asks Ss to read the model sentences

=> Concept checking: Meaning, form, use, pronunciation.

Step 2 : Practice :

Activity1; Picture Cue Drill - Run through all word cues - T. models => sts repeat - Teacher – Whole class.

- Open pairs => Close pairs.

Step 3 : Production :

Activity1: Noughts and crosses - Divide the class into 2 teams.

- One team is Noughts (0) and the other is crosses(x).

- One team starts choosing a number and makes a question and an answer with the given words. If the question and the answer are correct, T puts a mark (O or X ) in that square.

- The first team to get 3 in a row (across, down or diagonally) wins the game.

E.g: S1: What is he doing?

S2: He is swimming.

IV. SUMMARY (2 mins) - Sports vocabulary.

- Present progressive.

- Talking about what people are doing now.
