Lesson 3 I. Objectives:

1. Knowledge: After the lesson, Ss will be able to review the sound of the letter U, four U words and recognize the corresponding pictures, write the letter U

2. Skills: listening, speaking, writing 3. Attitude: Ss like studying English II. Teaching aids:

T: Pictures, books, flash card SS: Ss’ book, activity book III. Method: MAT, TPA.

IV. Procedure:

1. Organization: (1’) - Greeting

- Check absent students

2. Warm up (5’)

Play the song from Lesson 2, ask students to sing along and do corresponding actions.

3. New lesson

Activity 1: Thumbs Up or Down (5 mins) - Ask the students to close their books.

- Hold up the phonics cards one at a time.

- Ask the students to verify the word the teacher says by putting their thumbs up or down.

Activity 2 (7’)

- Ask Ss to take out their colour pencils/ crayons.

- Name some colours and ask the students to repeat.

- Ss: name the picture

- T ask Ss to listen and circle the pictures that they hear

- Show the picture in the book to the whole class.

- Ss circle the pictures individually - Asks Ss compare with their partner

- T checks and give answer Activity 3 (8’)

- Show the Ss the omelette phonics card. Point to it and say/u/ under. Ask them to repeat.

- Ss: read in chorus

- Point to the pictures, Ss do corresponding actions and say the words.

- T asks Ss to colour the pictures of the words that start with the u sound. Say the u words

Activity 4: (10’) Craftwork

- Ask Ss to take out their notebook then ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks.

- Ss write on their notebook

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

- Ss colour the letter and picture

- The Ss who finish will show their picture to the class.

7. Listen, point and repeat.

Colour the pictures of the words that start with the u sound. Say the u words

- Call Ss to retell what they’ve learn - Practice at home.

- Write on the board the big U and small u - Point to the letter U and say out loud

- Ss repeat its sound chorally, then individually

- Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity book P 18 (5’) How to write letter U. Writing

& Speaking

- Demonstrate how to write the big U by stroke - Ss look at the board

- Draw an example of letter U using dashed lines - Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the

letter U

- Have some students practice tracing letter U on the board

- Ss practice in the air

- Have students trace letter U in the books - Ss say /U/ after each finished letter

II.Writing & Reading

Activity Book : Tracing & Matching P.18(5’) - Put the phonics card (olive, nut) on the board.

- Copy the box from question 1 and 2 in the book to the board.

- Demonstrate tracing the line of letters using dashed

- Ask the students which one goes with letter U.

- Match letter U with the correct phonic card and small letter u.

- Do the same with other letter .

- Have the students do the same procedure in their book.

- Go around and give help as needed.

III. Writing & Reading(p.19- Activity book) (6’) - Copy the box from the book to the board

- Tell Ss that you are going to write the letter Uu into the box

- Demonstrate the writing

- Ask Ss to write the letter Uu in the box in their book and circle the correct picture that corresponds to the letter U.

Reading (Page 19 – Activity Book) ) (8 ’ ) UD PHTM: drawing

- Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/

crayons.

-Look at 2 box and read aloud the sentences - Have Ss play in group of 4.

- Who finish firstly is the winner - Ss drawing in group
