UNIT 15: DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?

Lesson 3 (Part: 4-6)

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- Read and understand sentences and a text about pets.

- Draw a picture of their pet and tell about it.

1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: review - Sentence patterns: review

2. Skill: Improve Ps’ reading, writing and speaking skills.

3. Attitude: Teach Ps to love their pets.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

1. Teacher: software Tieng Anh 3, TV/projector, subordinate board 2. Student: students' book, coloured pencils/crayons, a paper

III. METHODS: P.T.L (Pre task-Task cycle-Language analysis); P.W.P IV. PROCEDURE:

1. Organization (1’):

- Greet Ps.

- Check Ps’ attendance.

2. Warm up (5’):

- Ask two Ps to say the sound, the words and the sentences in lesson 3-period 1.

- Have two groups to say the chant Do you have any cats?

3. New lesson (26’):

- Get Ps to open their books on page 45.

- Tell Ps that they are going to read and match the questions on the left with the answers on the right.

- Give Ps time to do the task. Go round to help.

- Get Ps to check their answers in pairs.

- Ask Ps to give their answer to the class.

- Do choral repetition of the reading.

Extension: get Ps to do extra exercise in Sachmem (read and tick)

Activity 2 (8 ’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to look at the picture and read the text and complete the answers.

- Get Ps to identify the character, the pets and where they are.

- Check comprehension.

- Give the answer to the first question as the example.

- Give Ps time to do the task. Monitor the activity.

- Call on 2 pupils to do the task on the board.

- Have Ps swap and check their answer.

- Check with the class.

- Do choral and individual repetition of the text.

Activity 3 ( 8’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to draw the pet(s) they have or like. Then give the presentation of their work to the class.

- Check understanding.

- Give Ps time to do the project.

- Encourage them to draw as many pets as possible.

- Have Ps to work in pairs to ask and answer about their pets.

- E.g:

- P1: This is my dog. It’s in the garden. Do you have any pets?

- P2: Yes, I do. This is my …

- Call some pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class.

Lesson 1 (Part 1-3)

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

- Use the words and phrases related to the topic toys

- Ask and answer questions about the toys they like, using What toys do you like? I like…

1. Language focus:

- Vocabulary: ship, truck, plane, kite

- Sentences: What toys do you like? I like…

2. Skill: Improve P’s listening and speaking skills.

3. Attitude: Teach Ps to love their toys, II. TEACHING AIDS:

- Greet Ps.

- Point to each picture, have Ps repeat each word a few times.

- Draw Ps’ attention to the pronunciation of the ending s in toys, ships, truck, kites and planes.

- Use the first picture as an example.

- Put the question and the answer on the board and get Ps to repeat.

- Do choral and individual repetition, using pictures in the book.

- Get Ps to work in pairs.

- Check as a class.

*Extension: get Ps to play the game Lucky number, using the pictures about toys.

Activity 3 (6 ’ ):

- Get Ps to look at the picture and identify the toys (planes, cars, ships, dolls, robots, trucks)

- Give feedback and elicit words to fill the bubbles.

- Put the sentence on the board. Have Ps repeat.

- Have a pair act out the dialogue as an example.

- Get Ps to work in pairs.

*Extension: Get Ps to play the chain game, using the structure: What toys do you like? I like ……

Activity 2 ( 9’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to look and complete the sentences about Nam, Mai, Quan, Phong, Linda, Peter and the toys they like.

- Get them to look at the pictures and read the text in silence.

- Check comprehension and give feedback.

- Elicit the word to fill the first gap as an example.

- Allow Ps time to do the task. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

- Get Ps to swap and check their answers in pairs.

- Check and write the correct answer on the board.

Get Ps to copy down.

- Do choral repetition of the completed sentences.

Extension: Ask some questions about the text:

-What toy does Nam/ Quan… like? Does Mai like…?

Activity 3 ( 8’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to write their answers about their toys, using real facts.

- Give Ps a few seconds to read the questions.

- Check comprehension.

- Call one pupil to give a demonstration.

- Give Ps time to do the task.

- Ask two Ps to write their answers on the board.

- Correct the mistakes, if necessary.

- Get Ps to practise asking and answering in pairs.

Check the meaning, form, usage, pronunciation and intonation.

- Point to each picture, get Ps to listen and repeat the questions then the answer.

- Get them to practice asking and answering in two big groups.

- Get Ps to work in pairs. Move around to check.

- Give the comments.

Activity 3 (6 ’ ):

- Tell Ps that they are going to practice more with their friends, using their own words.

- Elicit the names of the pets in the picture.

- Point to the cats and ask Ps to complete the question and the answer.

- Have Ps repeat each of them a few times.

- Call a pairs to give the demonstration.

- Get Ps to work in pairs. Go around to help.

- Call a few pairs to act out the dialogue.

- Ask others to make the comments.
