UNIT 4: HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Lesson 3:1,2,3 (page27) I. Objectives.

1. Knowledge : -By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: ask and answer question about someone and someone’s age. Pronounce the sounds in the letters /f/, /s/

correctly.

- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills Educate ss to learn hard and love the subject 2. Competencies:

- Ss using knowledge to do exercises - Be self-conscious complete the exercises - Cooperation: (work in groups/ pairs) 3. Qualities:

- Ss confident in communicate with their friends.

III. Procedure:

1.Organization (1) : Greeting and warm up the class

-Tell pupils that they are going to practise saying the letters, words and sentences in the book.

-Put the phonics letters f and s on the board and say

- T asks Ss to listen to the cassette - Ss: repeat chorally – individually -Ask pupils to repeat after you.

-Prompt pupils to say the words and sentences, paying attention to the target phonics letters.

-Do choral repetition of the words and sentences until pupils feel confident.

- T asks Ss to retell what sounds, words, sentences have learnt.

- Ss: answer

*Activity 2. (10’)

- Have pupils look at the sentences and guess the suitable words to fill in the blank.

- T asks Ss to open their books.

- Tell pupils that they are going to do a dictation.

- Give pupils a few seconds to read the text in silence before starting the dictation.

- Have pupils swap and check their answers before checking as a class.

-Write the correct answers on the board for pupils to copy down into their notebooks.

-Get pupils to work in pairs and practise saying the sentences.

*Activity 3. (10’)

- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are reading the chant in their books

- T: ask ss to look at the picture.? How many people are there ? What are their names ? What are they doing?

- Ss: answer.

- T opens the chant.

- T read the lyrics.

2.Listen and write Answer:

- Say each line of the chant, then have pupils repeat it a few times.

-Give a demonstration of chanting and clapping the rhythm.

-Divide the class into two groups: one group chants the questions and the other chants the answers.

- Get groups of pupils to sit face to face and prastice chanting and doing the actions. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

-Call two groups to the front of the class to chant and do the actions. The rest of the class claps along to the

rhythm.

- Have Ss look at Pictures 1a, b; 2a, b on Page 25

- Identify the characters and guess what they are saying.

- Set the scene: “you are going to listen to the recording, match the information they hear to the pictures and tick the box in the appropriate picture.

- 1st:Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are looking the pictures in their books - 2nd: play the recording for Ss to listen and tick the correct pictures.

- 3rd: play the recording for Ss to check their answers.

- Asks Ss to exchange their answer with partners before reporting them to the class.

- T asks Ss to read out the answer.

- T plays the recording again for Ss to check their answer.

Ask Ss to identify the characters in the pictures on page 27.

Set the scene: “you are going to read the dialogues to get the information in order to tick the right picture”

Tell pupils that they are going to read and tick the correct boxes. Give a few seconds for pupils to look at the pictures and read the text in silence. Check comprehension by eliciting the name and the age of each character. Do the first question as an example.

Get pupils to work in pairs.

-Give pupils time to do the task. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

-Get pupils to swap and check their answers before checking as a class.

- Divide the class into four groups and get them to take turns to read aloud each character’s lines.

* Activity 3: (10’)

-Tell Ss that they are going to read and get information to write the name .

- Ss look at the pictures.

? Who are they? ? What are they doing? How many dialogues? Are they completed ?

- Ss: answer

- Ask Ss to run through the sentences

-Ss read silently and complete the sentences.

-Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction

-Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments.

-Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the reading text.

- Point to the first picture and elicit the character names and what each one says.

-Give feedback and have pupils repeat the text in the bubbles a few times.

-Repeat the procedure with the second picture.

-Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking.

-Play the recording for pupils to listen and say along.

* Activity 2 (10’)

- Call on some pairs to perform their task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments.

- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.

* Activity 3(10’)

-Tell pupils that they are going to practise more with their friends. Point to each character and elicit the name and what he/she says.

-Ask pupils to fill the gaps in the bubbles. Put the sentences on the board and have pupils repeat them a few times.

-Have pupils work in pairs or groups of three to do the dialogue, using the names of the characters or their own names.

-Go around to offer help with the pronunciation, if necessary.

-Call three pupils to act out the dialogue in front of the class.
