UNit 3 - a trip to the countryside

I. Objectives:

- By the end of this unit, Ss will be able to ask for and give information about life and activities in the countryside.

- Review the modals " could, would". Preposition of time " in / on/ at / from / to ..."

Adverb clause of result: " so" to talk about the result of an action.

- Practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skill.

+ Speaking: Ask for and give information about the geography of one's home country, describe direction/ location , talk about a pinic in the country.

+ Listening: Listen to a monologues about a trip to the countryside to talk about the position of place.

+ Reading: Read a text about an exchange student in the USA to get information about a country life in the USA.

+ Writing: Write about a picnic to the countryside.

II. Teaching aids

Books, teacher's book, lesson plan, posters, cards, tape, cassette player.

III. Procedure:

Unit 3- a trip to the countryside

Lesson 1 : getting started- listen and read A. Objectives

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read a text about a trip to the countryside and know something about country life and about country activities

* Skill: Practice reading and speaking skill.

* Ability: Help Ss to be more confident to communicate with others, show their love to their hometown and their country.

B. Teaching aids

T: Text book, lesson plan, poster, pictures. projector Ss:Text books, notebooks, pen, homework...

1. Getting Started Chatting (5m)

T asks Ss some question about country topic.

- Have you ever been to the countryside?

- Where is it?

- How often do you go there?

- What do you often do when you are in the countryside?

- Have you ever done any farm work/ work on the farm?

T asks Ss to open their book to look at the picture ( P22) T: What are these pictures about?

Ss: About country activities

T: Now I want you to make sentences with these pictures.

Ex: The man is plowing with his buffalo.

III. New lesson

1. Pre reading(10m)(use projector) Bamboo forest( n) bui tre, khom tre ( picture)

Banyan tree( n) cay da ( explaination) Snack (n) : bua an nhe ( example) Shrine (n) den, mieu ( explaination River bank (n) bo song ( translation) Act 2 T/F prediction ( Poster) (use projector)

1. Ba and his family had a two- day trip to their home village.

2. Many people like going their on the weekend.

3. There’s a small bamboo forest near the main entrance to the village.

4. Liz had a snack at the house of Ba’s uncle.

5. There’s a shrine on the mountain near Ba’s village.

6. Everyone had a picnic on the mountain.

7. Everyone left the village late in the evening.

8. Liz had a video tape to show the trip to her parents.

-Introduce vocab using some different techniques

-Ss listen and repeat

-Copy down the words on notebook.

-Check vocab by Ro& Re

- Set the scene: about Liz and Ba.

T: Do you know what did they do on the weekend?

T: Who did they go with?

Ss: They went to the countryside.

Ss: they went with Ba’s family.

T: Now I have some statements about their trip to the countryside. I want you to guess which one is T, which one is F.

Ss run through the statements.

Ss guess and compare with their partners, then give their prediction on board.

T asks Ss to read the text and check their prediction.

T asks Ss to read the text again and correct the false sentence( write in the correction column)

T asks Ss to read the questions and prepare the answer, then ask them to play Lucky number game.Ss read the text prepare the answer for the questions given.

Ss run through all the Qs and answer the questions.

- Ss prepare in 4' then play LN game (2 teams).

Write in individual IV. Summary (1m)

T stresses on some main ideas of the lesson

Today we have known a trip of Ba and Liz to the countryside and we have known some activities in the countryside.

V. Homework (1m)

Learn by heart the vocab, read the text again, answer the question in the notebook and continue writing the passage at home.
