Unit 12: Sports and pastimes

Lesson 1 : A1-3

A. Objectives:

1. Aims : By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to get further practice in present progressive and sports vocabulary to talk about what people are doing now.

2. Practice skill:

- Practice listening skill, writing skill, speaking skill, reading skill.

3. The knowledge needs to get:.

4. Basic language:

* Vocab: play badminton/table tennis, do aerobics, skip(v), jog(v)

* LF: What is he doing? He's swimming.

Which sports do you play? I play soccer.

Which sports does she play? She plays soccer.

5. Attitude: Help ss to have good consciousness in order to further practice in present progressive and sports vocabulary to talk about what people are doing now.

B. Teaching- aids:

Lesson plan, textbooks, pictures, poster.

C. Methods:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work

- Some techniques can be used: Jumbled words, Dictation lists, Picture cue drill, Noughts and crosses

III. New lesson(35’)

Activity 1: Presentation ( 10’ ) - Introduces new words by using the pictures

- Read the new words.

- Play the tape again and let sts repeat Ss:

- Repeat after teacher.

- Listen and copy down.

* Check Vo: R.O.R

- Using 2 pictures and ask Ss

- Remind the present progressive tense.

Activity 2: Practice ( 15’)

* Picture cues

- Run through the cues.

- Hold up the first cues and say the model sentences.

Ex: What is he doing ? He is swimming.

- Listen to the teacher.

- Repeat it chorally and then individually.

- Make the sentence for themselves.

- Practice in pairs.

- Some pairs practice in front.

- Look at the board.

- Work in groups.

Activity 3: Consolidation ( 10’)

*Nought and crosses

- Put the grid on the board.

- Divide class into teams. One is noughts (O) and the other is Crosses

- Read the new words.

- Repeat (chorus) then work in pairs.

- Play the tape and let Ss repeat ( look at the pictures)

- Replain the sentences from a – f.

Retell what the characters in section 1 do in their free time

- Emphasize the third person singular and the agreement of the verbs

- Have Ss change “I” to “Phuong . . .”

by asking some questions like example - Have Ss write in their notebooks.

- Ss: Correct their own writing with answer key (B3 / 128 )

- Let Ss listen and read the sentences in B3 again.

Activity 2: While – writing (12’) Ss: Write 3 things what they do in their free time.

- In groups, they put all their sentences together on a poster
