2. Warm up: (5’)

-   Divide class into two teams

-   Ask students from two teams to come to the board and write down as many letters from previous lessons as possible in a limited time

-   The teams with the most correct letters wins 3. New lesson:

Activity 6. Say the worsds. Circle the right letters.(8’)

-   Ask students to look at the picture in the book and name each object -   Decide the beginning sound for each word of the picture.

-   Ask students to circle the letter which is at the beginning of the words of the pictures -   Have some individuals point to the items and the letter and say them again

* Disabilities Ss: Circle with teacher's help.

Game: Sound and word (5’) -   Divide class into two team

-   Put one of the phonics card on the board

-   Ask a student from team A to identify the sound (1 point), the picture (1 point) -   Continue with a student from team B

-   The team with the most points wins the game

Activity 7. Listen. Point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the l sound.

Say the l words  (Track 72)(7’) Listen point and repeat

-   Show the students the lamp phonics card. Point to it and say: / l / - lamp. Ask them to repeat.

-   Mime turn on a lamp and say: / l / - lamp. Encourage the students to do the same -   Point to the pictures, the students do corresponding actions and say the words.

-   Play the CD, students listen and repeat

-   Ask students to work in pair: The first student point to the pictures and the other student say the word then change the roles.

Colour

-   Point to the pictures and have students name them

-   Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of the words that start with the L sound -   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

* Disabilities Ss: Colour with teacher's help.

Activity: Guessing game (10’) -   Ask students to close their book

-   Have a student come to the front of the class -   Choose a word in the phonics cards

2. Warm up: (5’)

-   Have the students listen to the chant in lesson 1 -    Have the students sing and act to the chant 3. New lesson:

Activity 1: Trace and say (10’) Revision of letter L, its sound(5’) Speaking

-   Write on the board the big L and small l

-   Point to the letter L and say out loud “This is the letter L/el/The letter L says /l/.”

-   Point to the letter land say out loud “This is the letter l /el/The letter l says /l/.”

-   Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

-   Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary  

Activity: How to write letter L(5’) Writing& Speaking

-   Demonstrate how to write the big L by stroke -   Draw an example of letter L using dashed lines

-   Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter L -   Have some students practice tracing letter L on the board -   Have students trace letter L in the books

-   Students say /el/ after each finished letter -   Go around to give help if necessary

Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter l 2. Trace and match( 10’)

Reading and tracing ( 6’)

-   Ask students to read the sounds and the objects in each question in the book -   Ask students to trace the big and small letters in the book

Matching ( 4’)

-   Students read the objects again and decide what sound is at the beginning of the words in the pictures

-   Ask students to match the sounds with the corresponding words of the pictures by using a pencil and a ruler to draw a line

* Disabilities Ss: Do with teacher's help.

Activity 3.Which ones begin with the l sound? Circle. Then write the letter Ll  (6’) -   Ask students to name the pictures in their activity book,

-   Have students definewhich pictures have the words begin with thel sound -   Ask students to circle the pictures which have just been defined

-   Go around and ask students to repeat the words of the picture they are circling -   Have the students write the letter Ll into their activity book

Activity 4.Draw and colour ( 4’)

- Have students to read the words in each picture -   Check the meanings of the words

-   Ask students to draw the pictures of lemon and lollipop into their book

-   Co around and ask individuals to name the picture they are drawing

Consolidation ( 4’)

-   Draw an imaginary letter  Ll in the air

-   Signal the students to look at teacher’s mouth

2. Warm up: (5’)

Activity: Chinese Whispers Game

-   Divide the class into 2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team.

-   The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a word/words/ a simple sentence to them.

-   The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on.

-   The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud.

-   The team has the correct answer is the winner

Play the song from Unit 2 (Track 78), the students listen and sing along 3. New lesson:

Point to the letters and elicit their names and sounds -   Explain the activity

-   Ask the students to find and colour the Yy letters -   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

Activity 7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the y sound.

Say the y words (Track 79) (8’)

-   Show the students the yogurt  phonics card. Point to it and say: /j/ - yogurt. Ask them to repeat.

-   Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt. Encourage the students to do the same

-   Say the letter. The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can).

-   Play the CD. The students listen, point to and repeat the word.

-   Point to the picture and have students name them.

-   Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /j/ sound.

-   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

Activity: Craftwork (10’)

-   Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

-   Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter Y and the picture of the item in their notebooks.

-   Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture.

-   The first three students who finish will present their letters and pictures to the class.

Activity: Practice writing (5’)

-   Ask a student to come to the board

-   Say a word from the lesson and tell the students to write the word on the board.

-   Ask the rest of the class for correction -   Repeat with as many students as necessary 6. Find and colour the Yy letter

-   Write on the board the capital letter Y (write slowly to demonstrate its formation).

-   Point to it  and elicit the sound /j/

-   Repeat with the small letter y

-   The students trace the letters in their activity books.

-   Go around and provide any necessary help. Ask the students to say the sound of the letter.

Activity 2. Trace and match (page 28 – Activity Book) (8’) -   Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures.

-   Check around the classroom.

Activity: Memory Game

-   Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask the students to memorize the order in which the items appear.

-   Ask the students to close their eyes and remove the cards.

-   Ask individual students to name the items in the correct order.

-   Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat the activity.

Activity 3. Say the words. Circle the correct letter (Page 29 – Activity Book) (6’) - Explain the activity

-   Point to the pictures and elicit their names

-   Ask the students to look at the pictures, say the word and circle the letter their names begin

-   Divide the class into 2 teams, A and B. Ask two students from each team to come to the board -   Teacher names a vocabulary item.

-   In a limited time, the students quickly draw it.

-   The student who finishes first wins a point for his/ her team.

- Play the CD and have Ss read the chant in chorus.

Activity 2. Listen and write.(10’)

Have pupils look at the sentences and guess the suitable words to fill in the blank.

- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and fill the blanks. Check their guess. Compare the answer with the partner.      

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T give the answer:

- Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction.

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

Activity 3. Let’s chant(10’)

Tell Ss that they are going to say the Chant “ Do you like toys?

Have them read the chant and check comprehension.

Play the recording all through Ss listen and  follow in their books.

Play the recording again Ss listen and  read line by line.

Divide the class into2 groups .G1: read the questions, G2: read the answers.

Then exchange.

When they are familiar with the rhythm, show them how to say the chant and do the actions.

Get groups  of Ss to sit face to face and practice chanting and doing the actions. Get around and offer help, if necessary..
