3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English.

2. Warm up: (5’) -   Greet students

-   Play the song from Unit 9, ask students to sing along and do corresponding actions.

Activity 6. Say the sounds. Colour the right pictures (8’) -   Review the letters and the sounds in activity 6.

-   Ask students to read the objects

-   Ask students to choose the object with the correspondent sound.

-   Have the students colour the objects that they choose with their favourite crayon.

-   Give the students 2 minutes to colour in the objects. Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

* Disabilities Ss: Colour with teacher's help.

Activity: Correct the teacher (5’)

-   Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time and ask individual students to correct the statement.

e.g. Teacher: (holding the iguana phonics card) Here is my hippo        Student 1: No, here is my iguana

-   Continue with the rest of the phonics cards and the other students  

Activity 7. Listen. Point and repeat (Track 07)(7’)

-   Show the students the insect phonics card. Point to it and say: /ɪ/ - insect. Ask them to repeat.

-   Mime an insect crawling up the arm and say /ɪ/ - insect. Encourage the students to do the same -   Point to the pictures, the students do corresponding actions and say the words.

-   Divide the class intogroups of two.

Colour

-   Point to the pictures and have students name them

-   Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of the words that start with the I sound -   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

 

Activity: Craftwork (10’)

-   Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

-   Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks.

-   Tell them to colour the letter and the picture.

-   The three first students who finish will show their picture to the class.

-   Have the students say the sound individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary  

Activity: How to write letter A Writing& Speaking

-   Demonstrate how to write thebig I by stroke -   Draw an example of letter I using dashed lines

-   Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter I -   Have some students practice tracing letter I on the board -   Have students trace letter I and i in the books

-   Students say /aI/ after each finished letter -   Go around to give help if necessary  

Repeat the same procedure with the lower letter i

Activity 2: Trace and match (page 22 – Activity Book)(5’)  Reading and tracing

-   Ask students to read the sounds and the objects in each question in the book -   Ask students to trace the big and small letters in the book

Matching

-   Students read the objects again and decide what sound is at the beginning of the words in the pictures

-   Ask students to match the sounds with the corresponding  words of the picturesby using a

pencil and a ruler to draw a line

Activity 3.Write the letter Ii. Colour the pictures that start with the /I/ sound  (Page 23 – Activity Book) ) (9’)

Writing the letter Ii

-   Review the way to write the letter Ii by asking students to draw into the space following the teacher first

-   Ask students to write the letter Ii  into their  activity book page 23 -   Call some individuals to read aloud the letter Ii /aI/ and the sound /I/

-   Give feedback Colouring

-   Ask student to name 6 objects in their  activity book and the beginning sounds -   Decide which objects have the sound /I/.

-   Ask students to choose their favourite crayons to colour these objects -   Move around and ask students to read the object they are colouring -   Give feedback

Activity 4.Draw. Colour (page 23 – Activity book) (5’) Listening and repeating

-   Ask students to look at the sentence in their activity book, listen to the teacher and repeat.

-   Stress on Ink , in and Igloo

-   Remind students by asking question: What is ink?  and what is igloo?

Drawing and colouring

-   Have the students draw and colour 2 objects: igloo, ink inside the igloo -   Go around providing any necessary help.

2. Warm up: (5’) Activity: Act It Out

-   Choose a student to come to the front of the classroom.

-   Show him/her a phonics card or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out.

-   The remaining students try to guess the correct answer.

-   The first student to have the correct answer comes to the front of the class and the activity continues.

-   Ask the students to take out their colour pencils/ crayons -   Point to the letters and elicit the letters and the sounds for each -   Ask the students to colour the pictures, use any colour they like -   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

Activity: Which One Is Missing? Game (5’)

-   Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on the board (may use some cards from

the previous lessons)

-   Give the students 10 seconds to look at the cards.

-   Have students close their eyes and then you take away one cards.

-   Tell the students to open their eyes and name the missing cards

Activity 7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of the words that start with the v sound.

Say the v words (Track 60) (8’)

-   Show the students the under phonics card. Point to it and say: /v/ - violin. Ask them to repeat.

-   Mime playing the violin and say: /v/ - violin . Encourage the students to do the same

-   Say the letter. The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can).

-   Play the CD. The students listen, point to and repeat the word.

-   Point to the picture and have students name them.

-   Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /v/ sound.

-   Go around the classroom providing any necessary help.

-   Point to it  and elicit the sound /v/

-   Show the formation in the air (taking care when facing to the students that the letter is formed the correct way for them.

-   Repeat with the small letter v

-   The students trace the letters in their activity books.

-   Go around and provide any necessary help. Ask the students to say the sound of the letter.

Activity 2. Trace and match (page 22 – Activity Book) (8’) -   Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures.

-   Divide the class into 2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team.

-   The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a

-   The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on.

-   The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud.

-   The team has the correct answer is the winner

Activity 3. Colour the V and the v. What is it? (Page 23 – Activity Book) (6’) -   Explain the activity

-   Ask the students to find and colour all the letter Vv -   Ask them to use any colour they like

-   Ask them to name the item in the picture

-   Tell them they can colour other letters with a different colour.

Activity 4. Help the violin go to the van. Follow the V (page 23 – Activity book) (5’) -   Explain the activity

-   Ask the students to circle all the upper case Vs to help the violin go to the van.

-   Check the students’ answers by holding up the book and ask the students for the right way.

e.g. Teacher: (point to a lower case v) Is this way right? Yes or No?

      Class: No! etc

-   Go around the classroom and provide any necessary help.

Activity: Sound and word (4’)

-   Divide the class into two teams, A and B.

-   Put up the 4 phonics cards of this lesson on the board.

-   Ask a student from team A to identify the sound (one point) and the word (one point).

-   Continue with a student from team B.

-   Write the points for each team on the board.

Have pupils look at the sentences and guess the suitable words to fill in the blank.

- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and fill the blanks. Check their guess. Compare the answer with the partner.      

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T give the answer:

- Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction.

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

Activity 3. Let’s chant(10’)

Tell Ss that they are going to say the chant.

Have them read the chant and check comprehension.

Play the recording all through Ss listen and  follow in their books.

Play the recording again Ss listen and  read line by line.

Divide the class into2 groups .G1: read the questions, G2: read the answers.

Then exchange.

When they are familiar with the rhythm, show them how to say the chant and do the actions.

Get groups  of Ss to sit face to face and practice chanting and doing the actions. Get around and offer help, if necessary..
