IV. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm up: (5’)

Spend a few minutes revising the story in activity 1 by inviting some pairs to act it out in front of the class.

Work in pairs.

II. New lesson: (30’) 4. Listen and tick (10’) a. Pre-listening:

- T looks at the books and sets the scence:

How many people are there?

Who are they?

What’s his/her favourite story?

- Tell Ps that they are going to listen to the recording and tick.

b. While-listening:

- Play the recording all the way through for Ps to listen. Play it again for them to do the task.

- Get them to compare their answers before checking as a class. Play the recording again to confirm the answers. Give explanations for the answers which Ps find difficult

- Answer T’s questions - Ss listen and answer the questions.

- Listen and do the task.

- Work individual.

- Listen again to check.

- Work in pairs.

5. Read and complete: (12’) a. Pre-reading:

- Ask Ps to look at the Activity 5 P53.

- Call a students read the paragraphs.

- Ask Ps to look at the yellow box.

- T asks: How many words are there? (5) - Ask a student to read words in the box.

b. While-reading:

- Ask Ps to read the words in the box to find the correct words in order to complete the paragraph.

- Get them to compare their answers in pairs before checking as a class. If there is enough time , have the class read the completed conversation aloud.

- Ask Ps to read the paragraph again.

6. Let’s play: (8’)

- Tell the class that they are going to play the game The guessing game.

- Explain how the game is played. Tell the class that they are going to play The guessing game to find out the titles of some famous books/stories for chilren. Follow the procedure in games in introduction.

- Divide the class into two groups. One group says three to five sentences( one by one) about the story as clues to help the orther group guess what story it is. The group gets one point if they can guess the story correctly with one sentence, and two points with two sentences, and so on. The group with the fewest points at the end of the game wins.

Each grougtakes turns giving the clues or guessing.

The one that gets more points wins.

- Spend a few minutes having the class play bingo, using the titles of books/story learn in lesson 1.

Then ask Pp to ask and answer questions about what are they reading, using what are you reading?

- Ps play bingo.

II. New lesson: (30’)

1. Look, listen and repeat. (12’)

- Tell the class that they are going to read about Mai and Quan. Ask them to look at the pictures, listen and repeat the lines in the bubbles

- Point pictures and ask these quetions: Who are they? Where are they? What are they doing? (Mai and Quan are at school . In picture a: Mai asks Quan what he’s reading. In picture b: Quan asks What is he reading he answers Aladdin and Magic Lamp. In picture b, Quan says the main character is a boy called Aladdin. In picture c, Mai continues to ask what’s he like? and Quan answers I think he’s generous. In picture d . Quan says Mai can borrow the book when he finishes.

- Look at the pictures and listen.

- Listen and anwers.

- Listen and point.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and follow in their books. Play it again for them to repeat line by line.

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times.

- Practice with ps.

- Devide the class into 2 groups. Asks practice in pairs.

- Go round and check ps can repeat and understand the dialogue.

2. Point and say: (12’) a. Vocabulary:

- hard-working, kind, clever, gentle + checking: Slap the board.

- T guides Ss how to play.

b. Model sentences:

A: What’s ...like?

B: He’s/She’s....

- Concept check: intonation, using c. Practice:

- Tell Ss that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about what the character of a book/story is like, using what’s...like? He’s/She’s...

- Have Ps look at the pictures and teach them to say the words under each picture. Get them to practise the question what’s...like? using the names under the picture. Then have them practise saying the answers , using give adjectives.

- Point to the first picture and ask What’s An Tiem like? For the class to answer He’s hard-working.

Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures.

- Ask them to practise in pair. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necesssary.

- Select some pairs act out the exchanges.

d. Production:

- Role play.

3. Let’s talk. (6’)

- Tell ps that they are going to practise further by asking and answering questions about

books/stories they like reading.

- Point to each character eliciting the name.

- Ask ps to guess what the children say.

- Fill the graps and write the sentences on the board.

- Listen and repeat.

- T-Ss and exchange.

- Work in pairs.

- Get pupils to swap and read thier answers before inviting one or two Ps to read the sentences aloud in the correct oeder.
