PAST PROGRESSIVE WITH “WHEN” AND “WHILE”

I.Theory:
1. Miêu tả hành động đang diễn ra thì có một hành động khác chen ngang
Eg: He was studying when the light went out.
2. Miêu tả hai hành động diễn ra đồng thời trong quá khứ
Eg: He was studying while his mom was cooking.
3. Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian với when và while
Trường hợp 1:
- Hành động đang diễn ra thì một hành động khác chen ngang
B. Practice (25’) - Ask Sts to use their
- When S + V(past simple), S + V(past continuous).
Eg: When she came last night, I was listening to music.
- While/ When S + V(past continuous), S + V(past simple).
Eg: While/ When I was going home yesterday, it rained.
- S + V(past continuous) when S + V(past simple).
Eg: I was listening to music when she came last night.
- S + V(past simple) while/when S + V(past continuous).
Eg: It rained while/ when I was going home yesterday.
Trường hợp 2. Hai hành động cùng xảy ra đồng thời
- When/While S + V(past continuous), S + V(past continuous).
Eg: While he was playing games, his mom was cooking.
- S + V(past continuous) when/while S + V(past continuous).
Eg: He was playing games while his mom was cooking.
Chú ý: Nếu while hoặc when đứng giữa hai mệnh đề thì không có dấu phẩy ngăn cách.
Ngoài việc dựa vào cách dùng của thì Quá khứ tiếp diễn, ngữ cảnh của câu thì có thể cân nhắc sử dụng thì Quá khứ tiếp diễn khi có xuất hiện các từ
như: While (trong khi); When (Khi); at that time (vào thời điểm đó);…
II. Practice
