LESSON 1-2 I. AIMS:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

 Recognize and pronounce the letter Ii and its sound correctly

 Understand, recognize and say the three Ii words Write the letter Ii

Vocabulary: ink, igloo and iguana Sight words

Here, is, my, in, with

2. Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing

3.Attitude: Recognize and pronounce the letter Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and its sound

1 . Organization: (2mins ) - Greeting

- Checking for the students' attendance.

Divide class into two teams (the students can choose their team’s name)

Give each team the same numbers of flash cards about what they have learned in previous lessons (5 or 6 cards)

Activity 1

1.Listen, point and repeat. Colour (Track 55): Introduction of letter I, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Ii (6 mins)

Use a card with letter Ii (or write on board the letter Ii) to introduce to the students the new lesson.

Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying:

“This is the letter I/aɪ /. The letter I says / ɪ/.”

Repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation (letter I /a/ and its sound / ɪ/)

Use the phonics cards with ink, igloo and iguana, read the words out loud and have students repeat.

Use gestures (hand actions) to help

students to understand the meanings of the three words.

(ink: imitate writing with a pen, igloo:

mime being cold, iguana: make a lizard’s head with hand and move it left and right quickly)

Show each cards and have students repeat the words chorally several times

Ask students with disability repeat the words

Correct their mistakes (if any) Activity 2

2.Listen and point. Choose. (Track 56):

Read the words with preceding “oh no”

and “my” (6 mins)

Have students look at the screen and listen to the words: Oh no, my ink. Oh no, my igloo. Oh no, my iguana.

Have students point to the correct object

Ask students to look at the pairs of

pictures on the side and choose the correct one for each corresponding item (base on the colour)

Ask students with disability listen and repeat the words

Go around the classroom, ask students to name the item they are matching

3. Chant and show! (Track 04) (6 mins)

Read the words, ask students to listen and do the gestures for each word (2 or 3 times).

Play the audio, ask students to sing and do the gestures with the chant.

4. Listen And Read Along (Track 05) (6 mins)

Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says.

Play the CD. Have the students listen to the story once.

Play the CD again. The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

Read the story. The students follow their books.

Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words.

Ask students work in pairs. One reads while the other checks, then they change roles. Or one reads the printed words

5. Song (Track 06) (6 mins)

Put the ink, igloo and iguana phonics cards up on the board.

Point to the igloo and say: “here is my igloo”. The students repeat.

Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song.

Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.

Ask students with disability listen and sing along.

Play the CD again. The pupils sing and do corresponding actions.
