Period 71 UNIT 7: MOVIES

Lesson 3 - Part 1 (Page 60) – New words; Listening and Useful language I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to

1. Knowledge

- talk about famous people from history and movies.

- listen for specific/ detailed information about planning for a trip.

- For handicaped student in class 6A, he will be able to know how to talk about famous people from history and movies.

2. Competences

- improve speaking, listening skills.

- develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems and other skills.

3. Quality

- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities; show love/respect for famous people/ heroes from the Vietnamese history.

II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS.

Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts…

III. PROCEDURES

A. Activity 1: Warm up (5’)

a) Objective: To help Ss relax and get interested in the topic of the lesson b) Content: Watching a movie/ chatting

c) Product: Ss may have general ideas about famous people from history.

d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, observation, analytical and note- taking skills

e) Organization of the activity:

* Option1:

- Have Ss watch a short extract/trailer of a historical movie and answer some

questions about the movie. (Quang Trung, Trưng Trắc - Trưng Nhị, …)

+ Name of the movie:

+ Person: (His/ her name) + famous for:

* Option 2: Chatting

- Ask for some information about a Vietnamese famous person: (Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Quoc Toan....)

(Show some pictures about famous kings, queens, and battles from Vietnam.)

- Ss watch the movie clip and take notes

- Look at the pictures and answer

- For handicaped student in class 6A, he will be able to say some famous people in history.

B. New lesson (35’)

Activities 1: New words (15’)

a) Objective: To talk about famous kings, queens, and battles

b) Content: Circling the correct definitions, talking about famous kings, ...

c) Products: Ss have general ideas about some famous people from history in movies.

d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, public speaking e) Organization of the activity:

* Presentation:

a. Fill in the blanks. Listen and repeat.

- Pre-teach the new words

- Ask Ss to practice the new words.

- For handicaped student in class 6A, he will be able to copy down and repeat all of them

- Check Ss’ pronunciation and

understanding of the new vocabulary.

* What and Where (Teacher - whole class)

- Write the words on the board, put each word in a circle

- Ask Ss to chorally repeat the English words

- Rub out the words one by one

- When all the circles are empty, ask Ss to repeat again; make sure the Ss can remember the words in their circles - Call some Ss to go to the board and write the words in their correct circles again

* Practice

- Ask Ss to fill in the blanks - Correct the answers

- Play the audio

- Look at the pictures to give the meaning of new words

- Write down new words.

C. Activity 3: Listening (15’)

a) Objective: To listen for gist / detailed information about Alexander the Great b) Content: Listening and ticking what each person said

c) Products: Ss get some useful knowledge about Alexander the Great, improve listening comprehension

d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, analytical and synthesizing skill e) Organization of the activity:

* Pre listening

- Set the situation by asking Ss some information about Alexander the Great

*While-listening

a. Listen to Jim and Lisa talking about the movie Alexander the Great. Who liked the movie?

(For main idea.)

- Play the audio (CD2 - 25) twice - Play the audio again and check the answer as a whole class - Encourage Ss to say why they choose the answer if there is time

- Answer the questions

- Listen the audio and answer the question individually

- Share their answers with their partners - Give the answer

* Answer: Lisa liked the movie (I thought it was great. He was a great king.... I thought it was really interesting.)

- Go over the vocabulary with the whole class:
