UNIT 9: NATURAL DISASTERS Lesson 5: Write

A. Objectives:

1. Aims : At the end of the lesson ss will be able to write a story using simple past to describe the storm happened

2. Practice skill: - practice writing skill.

3. The knowledge needs to get:

+ Standard knowledge: write a story

+ Advanced knowledge: create a new big story about other storm.

4. Basic language:

- Tenses: past simple tense.

5. Attitude:

- Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice writing a story B. Teaching- aids:

Lesson plan, textbooks.

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used:

1. Pre – writing (10 minutes) Getting to know 6 pictures on P80 - Set he scene: This is Lan's family, they are at home..

2. While - writing: (16 minutes)

She is outside / in the garden.

She is playing with her dog.

- Lan is outside playing with her dog.

It looks strange. Perhaps it is scared

- All of a sudden, the dog behaves strangely.

She tells Lan that she has just heard on TV that there is a typhoon coming.

- Lan ran home and her mother tells her that there is a typhoon coming.

- They are gathering and talking about the coming typhoon.

- Mrs. Quyen gathers her family and asks them to find shelter in th house.

It is very dark. I has strong wind and heavy rain.

- Suddenly, it becomes dark. He storm comes with strong wind and heavy rain.

- It is fine.

- They all are happy.

- Asking some Ss to look at the pictures, the words and write the story.

-Get Ss to share with their partners and correct mistakes.

3. Post - writing: (13 minutes)

Ask ss to write a story about a new big storm.

+ Possible writing:

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shiny, the sky was blue and the weather was perfect. Lan was outside playing with her dog, Skippy. All of a sudden, the dog began behaving strangely. She kept running around circles. Lan ran home with her dog to tell her mother what Skippy was doing. Lan's mother, Mrs. Quyen told Lan that she heard on TV that there was a typhoon coming. Mrs. Quyen gathered her family and told them to find shelter in the house.

Suddenly, the sky became very dark. The storm came with strong wind and heavy rain. Mrs. Quyen and her family were scared, but soon the storm finished and everyone was glad. What a clever dog Skippy is. She saved Lan from being caught in the typhoon.
