I. AIMS

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to to consolidate the sound of the letters Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd and the corresponding words

2. Skills: - Develop Ss reading  skill

3. Attitude: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English II. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher’s: books, lesson plan, smart class 2. Students’: Books, workbooks.

III. METHOD

- Communicative approach.

Techniques:+ Work individually, in pairs/ groups.      

IV. PROCEDURE 1. Organization:

- Greetings:  T – Ss greet each other.         

 - Checking attendance: Who’s  absent today?       Ss: Answer Class

2. Warm up: (5’)

- Arrange some chairs, back to back, in the middle of the room - Choose phonics cards and place them on the chairs

- Play a song (use a song from the previous units)

- When the music stops the students pick up a phonics card and, one at time, tell Teacher the

- The student who gives an incorrect answer is out of the activity - Play the activity as many times as necessary

3. New lesson:

I.Revision & Practice

Activity 1.Listen. Read along (Track 26) (15’) Act: Listen and read. (8’)

- (book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time.

-Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite story  (or character) is - Show phonics cards of these words: ant, bed, dog, cat, clock, dragon, drum on the screen - Ask the students to read out the words

- Invite students to guess what they think the story is about (do not dismiss any ideas) - Ask the students to open their books

- Ask them questions about what they can see in the pictures e.g. Teacher: (pointing to the dog in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

      Class: (It’s a) dog!

      Teacher: (pointing to the bed in picture 1) Yes! The dog is on the ….

      Class: bed! etc

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and follow the story on the screen, pointing to the pictures of the key words

- Play the CD again pausing for the students to repeat - Ask individual students to read the story aloud Act: Extension (optional) (7’)

- Ask the students to read the story again

-Then ask them to look at the pictures for a few minutes and close their books

- Say a few sentences (some correct and some incorrect) and ask the students to say yes or no by using software “Compete”

e.g. Teacher: The dog is on the bed.

      Student 1write: Yes!

      Teacher: The dragon is on the clock.

      Student 2write : No! etc

Activity 2.Which animals are in the story? Colour (15’) Act: lead – in ( 5’)

-Point to the animals and ask students to name them.

- Ask the students to say which animals appear in the story.

- Ask them to colour those animals.

Act: Act Out ( 10’)

-Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words.

-Invite the students to mime them (the dog, the bed, the ant, the cat, the clock, the dragon, the drum.

-Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story.

-Encourage them to have fun as they perform.

2. Students’: Books,  workbooks.

2. Warm up: (5’)

Put up some phonics cards on the board.

Line up students into 2 teams of 6

Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board

Read words out loud, one at time (e.g. ant), the students must run to tap the card of that word.

The student who taps the correct card first will get 1 point for his/her team. The team with the most points wins the activity.

3. New lesson:

Ask students to name each picture

Ask students to match the pictures that begin with the same letter and then match them to the corresponding letter

Go around and provide any necessary help Activity 4: Listen and circle (Track 27) (5’) Explain the activity

Say the names of the items Play the CD

The students listen and circle the correct picture.

Answer key:        1 – apple     2 – bee                       3 – clock      4 - drum

Act: Get in line ( 6’)

Ask 12 students to come to the front of the classroom and make a circle

Give the students randomly 12 phonics cards of the words they have learnt. Say: Go!

The students must find and get in line with other students holding cards beginning with the same letter.

The first students to make a complete line win the activity
