UNIT 11: TRAVELLING AROUND VIET NAM LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED, LISTEN AND READ A. Objectives:

1. The aims: By the end of the lesson ss will be able to listen and read a dialogue and check the sentences; know some expressions to express their interest.

2. Knowlege

- Standard: Practice the dialogue and check the sentences - Higher: Ask and answer questions about the dialogue 3. Language focus

- Ask each team to connect the words to make the right phrases for places of interest and write them on the board as fast as possible.

- Ask Ss to open their books and match the names with the pictures.

- Call on some Ss to give their answers.

III. New lesson(35’)

Step 1: Pre - reading (13’)

- Today, we are going to read a dialogue about how to express interest .Let's start with some new words.

- Elicit words from sts.

1. Pre- teach

- Something such as grain, rice , fruit … is grown in one season.

- It is used to make sugar.

- (traslation)

- The drive takes 40 minutes. It 's a forty- minute drive.

- Ask sts to notice that a plural noun must be chaged to the singular form when preceding the noun it modifies in a noun phrase.

- Have sts drill some more: ( oral =>

writing).

- Sts listen

- Listen and repeat (chorally then individually)

- Copy.

* Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember

2. Guiding questions:

- Set the scene and put the chart with questions on the board

- Ask Ss to think about the questions in a few minutes

- Have Ss listen to the tape while reading the dialogue

- Get Ss to work in pairs to answer the questions

- Ask Ss to listen to the tape and say out True or False

- Read the sentences aloud and call on some Ss to answer , then have them correct the false sentences and get them to write in their notebooks.

- Call on some groups of five to practice the dialogue in front of class

- Correct their pronunciation Step 3: Post - reading (8’) Discussion:

- Ask Ss to read the dialogue again , discuss with them and ask them to pick out the sentences containing the

situations mentioned below .

- Ask Ss to open their books and look at the picture / 108 and set the scene: “ It is time for recess and the people at Quang Trung school are in the school yard . What are they doing ? “

- Ask questions and call on Ss to answer then correct .

- Elicit the target language by asking the question:

" Who is the man walking up the stairs ?"

=> Model sentences :

The man walking up the stairs is Mr Quang

( present participle phrase ) - Have Ss copy

Step 2: Practice (8’)

- Ask Ss to work in pairs to say who each person is , using the information above

Example: The man walking up the stairs is Mr Quang .

- Correct and feedback

- Ask Ss to look at the words in the box
