UNIT 5: THE MEDIA I. Objectives :

1. Topic: the media 2. Competences:

- Expressing agreement and disagreement - Asking for and giving opinions

3. Skills:

- Listening: Listen to monologues / dialogues within 130-150 words for general or specific information.

- Reading: Read passages within 150-180 words for general or detailed information

4. Grammar:

- Tag questions

- Gerunds after some verbs: like doing, enjoy doing 5. Vocabulary:

- Words to talk about the media: history, development, different uses.

- Words to express opinions about the media: like, dislike, advantages, disadvantages.

II. Teaching aids : Textbook, pictures, posters, word cards, computer, tape, projector.

III. Procedure : 4 lessons

- Lesson 1 : Listen and read - Lesson 2 : Listen

- Lesson 3 : Read

- Lesson 4 : Language Focus

LESSON 1: LISTEN AND READ A.Objectives:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the leson, students can be able to talk about means of media and review gerunds after some verbs.

2. Skills:

- Practice the comprehension reading skill, listening and speaking skills.

3. Attitude:

- Help ss to have good awareness in order to practice reading for detalis, doing some exercises.

- Some techniques can be used: Shark’s attack, Odering statements prediction, Comprehension questions.

II. Warm up(5’)

*Shark’s attack:

- Prepare a shark ( or a crocodile ) and a girl/ boy on cards.

- Draw some steps on the board, and the sea around the steps.

- Stick the boy/ girl on top of the steps and the shark is in the sea.

- Draw six gaps for the word MEDIUM - Get students in teams ( or ask them as a whole class ) to guess is right, they will get one mark.

- The game can continue with some more word.

- Ask students the meaning of Medium and the plural form of medium ( media -

Step 1. Pre- reading (13’) : 1. Vocabulary :

- Call on two teams of 5 students to the front of the class.

2. Odering statements prediction:

- Give the poster os statements on the board.

- Get students to work in pairs to put the statements in correct order.

Step 2. While- reading(14’) 1. Reading and checking

- Get students to read the text about the media and check their guesses.

- Give feedback.

- Have students complete the table with the passage letters in which these facts or events are mentioned

- Ask students to work individually then share with their partners.

3. Comprehension questions

- Have students work in pairs to answer the questions in exercise 2b on page 42.

- Call on some pairs od students to ask and answer the questions.

- Give feedback.

- Help week groups if necessary.
