UNIT 1: A visit from a pen pal

Lesson 3: Listen

(page: 09) A. Aims of the lesson:

1. Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to listen and choose the pictures according to the dialogue. Then remind how to make and answer the questions in the simple past tense.

*. Language focus:

a, Vocabulary: - Grass, to catch, to pick up.

b, Grammar: - To catch the bus.

- Would rather do smt.

- It’s up to…

- It’s time sb did sth.

2. Skills:

- Listening & speaking

*. Kĩ năng sống:

- Biết xác định giá trị của những đồ vật xung quanh cuộc sống hàng ngày từ đó biết gìn giữ, bảo quản và hướng dẫn người khác không vi phạm.

- Lắng nghe sự hướng dẫn của người khác và cảm thông, chia sẻ với công việc của họ.

3. Attitude:

- Ss can practice speak freedom.

- Some pictures, photo copy dialogue, tape, computer.

Warm up and check old lesson : (05’) * Jumbled words.

- Divide the class from each team to go to the board and write down the correct words.

- The team which is faster with more correct words wins the game.

III. New lesson: (38’)

1. Pre- Listening : ( 10 min )

- Ask Ss to look at the book and the pictures then find the differences by answering the questions : 1. What is the difference between Picture 1 and 2 in a ?

( In picture 1 , we are not allowed to walk on grass. In picture 2 , we are not allowed to pick flowers . )

2. What is the difference between picture 1 and 2 in b ?

( In picture 1 , the bus is red and its number is 103 . In picture 2 , the bus is blue and its number is 130 .)

3. What is the difference between picture 1 and 2 in c ?

( In picture 1 , it is the Mexican restaurant . In picture 2 , it is the American one – Humburgers ) - Call on some pairs to answer the questions . - Remark and correct mistakes if any .

=> Introduce the situation of the listening “ Tim Jone,s Mexican pen pal , Carlo , is visiting the USA . “ . Now listen to their conversation and check stick the numbers of the correct pictures . The above differences may help you .

2. While Listening : ( 15 minutes )

- Answer some questions about Maryam .

- Work in pairs to discuss answering these questions .

- Report in the front .

- Listen carefully

Tim : Carlo ! Be careful . You are walking on the grass . The park keeper is growing some more – you will kill new grass !

- Call on some pairs to read them aloud . - Correct mistakes if any .

- Listen to the tape and do the exercise by checking stick the numbers of the correct pictures

LESSON 4 : READ

( page 9 – 10 ) A. Aims of the lesson:

1. Knowledge;

- Reading the text for details. The passage within 150-180 words for general or detailed information.

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to have some knowledge about Malaysia, one of the countries in ASEAN.

*. Language contents:

a) Vocabulary: Area, popular, climate, unit of currency, official religion, national language, compulsory …..

b) Grammar: - Review: + The present simple tense + Modal verbs: can, may.

2. Skills:

- Reading and speaking.

3. Attitude:

- Ss study harder when they read about Malaysia and relates to Viet Nam, Asean countries.

B.

Teaching aids :

Teacher: Text book, pictures, map of countries of the ASEAN.

Students: Textbook, notebook, pen, chalk, collect pictures of countries in ASEAN C. Methods:

- Individual work, Pairs work.

- Draw strokes on the board. Each stroke stands for a letter of the word.

- If student guesses wrong eight times, they lose.

Teacher gives the answers.

2. Pre – Reading. (10’).

- ASEAN = Association of South East Asian . - Nations (n) ; Quốc tế

- Comprise (v) ; sáng tác

- Tropical climate (n) : Khí hậu nhiệt đới - Unit of currency (n) -: Đồng tiền xu - Islam (n) : Đạo hồi

- Tamil (n) : Tiếng Tamil

- Primary language (n) : Ngôn ngữ cấp Tiểu học - Ask Ss what they know about Malaysia.

- Ask them to make questions for what they want to know.

3. While – Reading. (13’).

- Ask Ss to read the text to find out the answers to the questions.

- Feedback.

- Ask Ss to read the text the second time to fill in the chart in the exercise a) on page 10.

- Ask Ss to compare with their partners.

- Feedback then gives the correct Answers.

B: You are Maryam, from Malaysia. You have to answer A’s questions about your country.

- The interview may start like this:

A: Hi, Maryam. I’m going to visit Malaysia on my summer holiday. I’d like to know something about your country. Can you help me?

B: Yes, certainly.

A: What language is spoken in your country?

B: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese, and Tamil are also widely spoken.

A: Do children have to study any foreign language in school?

B: Yes, English is a compulsory second language in secondary school.

A: Ah, I see. What about the people?

B: I think they are friendly...
