UNIT 1: A VISIT FROM A PENPAL I. Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, student will be able to:

- make and respond to introduction.

- scan for specific information.

- write a personal letter.

II. Teaching aids:

Textbook, pictures, posters, word cards, cassette, map of countries of the ASEAN.

III. Procedure:

- Lesson 1: Getting started, Listen and read - Lesson 2: Speak

- Lesson 3: Listen - Lesson 4: Read - Lesson 5: Write

- Lesson 6: Language Focus

UNIT 1 : A VISIT FROM A PEN PAL LESSON 1 : GETTING STARTED LISTEN AND READ

A. Objectives:

1. Knowledge

- Students will be able to read for detail about some places Lan went to with a foreign friend and some activities they took part in together.

2. Skills

- Reading comprehension skill, asking and answering skill, completing sentences.

3. Attitude

- Help Sts have good consciousness in order to practice listening and reading for details, doing some exercises.

B. Teaching aids: Textbook, pictures.

C. Methods: Chatting, Open prediction, Rub out and Remember.

D. Contents:

II. WARM UP: ( 5 ' ) Chatting:

- T asks - SS answer.

Questions:

- Do you have any pen pal?

- Where does s/he live?

- Has s/he ever visited your city?

- What activities would you do during the visit?

III. NEW LESSON : ( 35 ') Step 1: Pre - reading

Possible answers:

- I think I’ll take our friends to temples and churches.

- I’ll take them to the beach.

- I’ll take them to the mountains.

-I’ll take them to the theaters, restaurants.

- Today, we are going to read about some places LAN went to with a foreign friend and some activities they took part in together. Let's start with some new words.

1. Pre-teach vocabulary:

1.(explanation) if two people

correspond, they regularly write to each other.

2 . ( picture )

3. (explanation) admiring some one or something very much .

4. ( mine ) Sts : - listen.

- listen and repeat (chorally then individually) .

- copy.

* Checking vocabulary: R.O.R

- Each time you rub out an English word, point to the Vietnamese translation and ask “what’s this in English?”

- When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get student to call the English words.

- If there is time, get students to come to the board and write the English words again.

2. Open prediction :

- LAN’s Malaysian pen pal came to visit her in Hanoi. Can you guess where she went and what she did during her stay?

- Give feedback to the whole class to the open prediction.

Step 2 : While - reading

*Read and check

- Ask SS read the text to check their

prediction and add some more information.

*Choose the correct option :

- Ask read the text again to choose the correct option to complete the sentences on page 7 ( work in pairs )

Step 3: Post - reading

Speaking

- Ask recommend places of interest in their city.

- Ask them to discuss where they should take their friends to and what activities they should do.

- Give some cues.

- Using the patterns :
