Affirmative commands : Form: “ V + O/A”

→ S + told /ordered + O + to + V bare inf + O/A.

Eg:“ Please give Tim this dictionary . “

=> Miss Jackson told me to give you this dictionary

2.2.Negative commands:

Form: “Don’t + V + O/A”.

→ S told / warned …+ O + not to + V bare inf + O/A.

eg: “ Don’t go out tonight”, my father said to me.

e.Requests in reported speech:

Câu yêu cầu cũng có hai dạng, yêu cầu khẳng định và câu yêu cầu phủ định.

Khác với câu mệnh lệnh ở chỗ câu yêu cầu có chữ “please” trước hoặc sau.

f. Affirmative Requests :

Trước tiên ta xác định dạng câu tường thuật này là câu yêu cầu ở thể khẳng định.Không có trạng từ hay đại từ cần phải đổi nên ta áp dụng công thức là làm được. Lưu ý, ta bỏ chữ “please”

Eg: “ Can you give Tim this dictionary ?

“ - Mr Jackson asked.

-Tim’mother reported it to Tim:

=> Mr Jackson asked me to give you this dictionary .

3.Requests in reported speech

3.1.AForm: “ Please + V + O/A”, hoặc

“ V + O/A, please”.

→ S + asked / begged …+ O + to + V bare inf + O/A.

eg: “ Can you give Tim this dictionary ?

=> Mr Jackson asked me to give you this dictionary

3.2. Negative Requests:

Form: “Don’t + V +O/A, please” hoặc

“Please + don’t + V + O/A”.

→ S + asked /begged + O + not to + V bare inf + O/A.

eg: “ Don’t make a noise here, please”, He said to me.

=> He asked me not to make noise there.

4. Advice in reported speech

* Form:

- “ S + should /ought to/ had better + V bare inf + O/A”.

- “ Why don’t +you + V bare inf + O/A ?”

Khi tường thuật lời khuyên sang lời nói gián tiếp (tường thuật), chúng ta thường dùng động từ tường thuật : Advised /recommended.

Eg : Miss Jackson said , “ Tim should work harder on his Spanish

pronunciation . “

-Tim’mother reported it to Tim:

=>Miss Jackson said you should work harder on your Spanish pronunciation.

-Explain the form
