UNIT 3: WHERE DID YOU GO ON HOLIDAY?

Lesson 1-Part 1+2 +3 I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge: After the lesson students can ask and answer about ask and answer questions about past holiday.

        - Sentence Pattern: “Where did you go on holiday? – I went to…”       - Vocabulary: 

trip, really, ancient town, imperial city, holiday 2. Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills

3. Core competencies and personal qualities:: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English with others, to be studious and obedient and to love their hometown, family and friends.

 II. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, CDs and computer, speaker, projector.

2. Students’: Books, notebooks, workbooks.

2. Presentation:

Act 1: Look, listen and repeat(7’)

* Set the scene:      

- T uses the picture of the dialogue on page 18 (Student book 1) to lead Ss in the conversation - Ask students to look at the 4 pictures  in the

book and elicit.

   T: Who are they in the picture?

     Ss: They are Mai and Peter…

    T: Where are they?

     Ss: They are at home.

      T: What are they doing?

    Ss: They are talking on the phone.

- Play the recording all the way through  for Ss to listen and follow in their book.

- Play the recording again for Ss repeat the text several times.( line by line in the bubbles).

- Point to the picture for Ss to read the dialogue  again

- Have Ss to find out the new structure.

Act 2. Point and say.(15’) a. Presenting new words.

- Point to the pictures  and elicit the New words.

- T models  - Ss listen and repeat.

       + WC

       + Groups( Optional)        + Individual

- T writes the word on the board.

- Do the same way with other words.

- T asks Ss to copy down.

Check vocabs:

        -  What & where.

b. Sentence Pattern:

* Presenting model sentences.

- Point to the first picture  and elicit the

 place where someone went on his/her last holiday, to fill in the gap. Put the sentence on the board:  “Where did you go on holiday? – I went to…”   and have Ss repeat them several times.

- Check the form/ use/ meaning/ Intonation.

3. Practice.

 

- Tell Ss that they are going to practice saying.

                     

2. Point and say.

 a. Vocabulary trip: Chuyến đi  really: thực sự  ancient town:phố cổ  imperial city:cố đô  holiday : kì nghỉ        

         

b.  Sentences

  - Where did you go on holiday?

– I went to…

Lesson 1  Part 4 +5 +6 I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge: After the lesson students can ask and answer about ask and answer questions about past holiday.

“Where did you go on holiday? – I went to…”.

- T reads – Ss listen & repeat.

- Replace the addresses by doing choral and individual repetition, using the pictures in the book.

- T asks Ss point and say.

- T and good students model.( T         S1, T        S2)

 +T- WC  + Half/half

 + Pairs( Closed pairs, Open- pairs) 4. Application:  Let’s talk(8’)

Tell Ss that they are going to practice more with their friends. Give a few seconds for Ss to read the questions and check comprehension.

Call a pair to give a demonstration of the answer before starting the activity.

Have Ss work in pairs. Go around to offer help and correct the pronunciation, if necessary.

Call several pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class.

5. Summary(2’):    Consolidate the content of the lesson

III. PROCEDURE

1. Warm up: (5’)

- Play  whisper  game.( He went to Hoi An ancient town..)

+ Ss play in group of 5.

2. New lesson:

Act 1: Listen and match(8’).

*Pre:Tell Ps that they are going to listen and match the correct picture. Give a few seconds for Ps to look at the pictures.

Check comprehension and give feedback.

*While: Play the recording three times for Ps to listen, do the task and check their answers.

Get Ps to swap and check their answers before checking as class.

Key:  1.c;  2.d; 3.b; 4.a

*Post: Game bingo: Listen and write - T say a word and ask ss to write the words in their notebook. The one who finish first, say bingo and get point for their team.

Act 5. Read and match(12’).

*Pre: Tell Ps that they are going to read the sentences and match. Give Ps a few seconds to read the sentences in silence.

Check comprehension and give feedback

*While: Get Ps time to do the task. Go around to offer help, if necessary.

Get Ps to swap and check their answers

- Sentence  Pattern:   How did you get there? – I went by….

- Vocabulary: province, coach, back, plane, train, taxi, motorbike, underground, bus, fun.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills

3. Core competencies and personal qualities: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English with others.

II. TEACHING AIDS

1. Teacher’s: Lesson plan, books, CDs and computer, speaker, projector.

before checking as a class. Write the correct answers on the board for Ps to copy down their notebooks.

- Ask students to look at the 4 pictures  in the book and check comprehension by eliciting the answers for these questions.

   T: What’s his name?

     Ss: He’s Phong.

    T: Who’s he talking with?

     Ss: He’s talking with Tony     T: Where are they?

     Ss: They are in…..

    T: What are they talking about?

    Ss: They are talking about last holiday.

 - Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen and follow in their book.

- Point to the pictures in part 2 and elicit the  New words.

- T models  - Ss listen and repeat.

1. Knowledge: After the lesson students –  Write about someone’s last holiday.

..  *  Language focus:

- Sentence Pattern:   How did you get there? – I went by….

- Vocabulary: province, coach, back, plane, train, taxi, motorbike, underground, bus, fun.

2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening & writing skill

3. Core competencies and personal qualities: - Help Ss to be more confident to communicate in English.

Give a few seconds for Ps to look at the sentences. Check comprehension and give feedback.

*While: Play the recording three times for Ps to listen, do the task and check their answers.

Get Ps to swap and check their answers before checking as class.

Key: 1/motorbike   2/train     3/taxi     4/plane

*Post: Listen and repeat the sentences:

R e a d e a c h l i n e a n d c h e c k comprehension. Sing each line and have Ps repeat it. When Ps are familiar with the tune, ask them to sing and do the actions.

Ask groups of Ps to sit face to face and practice singing and doing the actions.

Call a group of five to sing the song and do the actions.

Have the whole sing the song and do the actions
